Yeah, I don't really believe him. If a juicy enough role hits his lap he'll take it regardless.

I don't think I've seen any of his movies from beginning to end.

I can see Lincoln as boring (it was), but not Gangs of New York or Last of the Mohicans.

There Will Be Blood was fantastic, but it dragged at times.

Probably. Most of us are movie fans around here.

I would think that My Left Foot should appeal to most people.

Doesn't he take long breaks from acting anyway? I thought after Lincoln he said he was going to become a woodworker in Venice for a few years before acting again?

He is a carpenter or maybe some sort of mason as his main job. He has been doing this for many years as far as I know. I saw in an interview a while ago that he said when his son was young that he didn't even realize that DDL was an actor. He just thought DDL was some sort of craftsman.

But yeah, DDL has taken long breaks from acting in between roles and has been very particular about the roles that he accepts for a while now. I think since the 90's. He has to think they have some artistic merit beyond a payday to accept them, and each role takes a lot out of him because he throws himself into his characters to ridiculous lengths. We will probably never realize which role is actually his last until a long time after.

Yea, movie was just slightly above average. His performance was fantastic though.

Lincoln was one of those boring and predictable homages to the struggles and greatness of the past. I can't really think of exactly the way to describe what I didn't like about it succinctly. I just thought it was uninteresting, formulaic, and something that I had seen a thousand times before. It gave me nothing new to think about.

But DDL's performance was as usual, imo, impressive.
