.You have to win the next game and I think Poche is the best chance at this point
Unless we hit the ball, but we are showing NO signs of coming alive at the plate. We are looking promising in the slamming bats down in disgust category.

I would throw Brian Wilson. He's clean shaven again, so Mainieri will allow him to play for LSU. Without the beard no one will notice that a 34 year old former pro is out on the mound

Hess is LSU's most destructive pitcher on the mound right now but the fear is you throw him Wednesday he's done for the week in that one game. While you can't play with fear you must be sound in thinking what gives the best chance to keep playing.
Mainieri is going to tell his guys and it'll be known going in that Lange and Poche need to be those veterans and put the team on their back Wednesday and Friday, it's the only way this plan works. If they want it hard enough they'll keep fighting, we just need to sit back relax and see if they can.

What do you go Saturday? That's my point. We have only Gilbert and Wholestaff left.
Is it absolutely certain that Walker is finished for the year, because I think this Wholestaff fella might go the way of Brady Wofford next year?

To the guy who started this thread and said to start Hess Wednesday you my friend are dumb. You should get a million downvotes.

I prefaced my comment with IF THE GOAL IS TO GET TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP. And when you read the rant all year long, about half the board believes getting to Omaha is no big deal, and that unless you bring home a ring, then the season is a failure.
I see both sides of this thing, winning one more soothes the soul and it is the prudent thing to do.
I through the Hess thing out there because he's a stud, and unlike Poche' and Lange he is very well rested. I also through the Hess thing out there because I could see him going seven and with a strong showing from the O, we could win it with average help in the 8th and 9th innings.
Now going with Hess could completely backfire, I know that. He could melt in the spotlight. We see freshmen do that all the time.
But then I could see that Poche' then Lange both winning could spark us to a great day Saturday. I'm not hardheaded.
Thanks for the well thought of response.

Am I the only one who is concerned about FSU seeing Poche already?

Good point, plus Poche is on short rest. But he's the safe play.

short rest? after 30 pitches? okay....

I stand corrected
30 pitches isn't that much.

The only way I see it is
Poche Wednesday let Hess close
Lange Friday let Hess close
Gilbert and all hands on deck Saturday
I agree. Question: is it pretty unconventional to throw your closer that close together? Just wondering how probable this is.

If Hess doesn't get stretched more than 2 innings theoretically on Wednesday then he could come back and throw Friday.
It's no different than a normal weekend.

It's going to be frickin sweet when Hunter Newman throws 2-3 scoreless innings on Saturday to get us to the Championship round!! He is so much better than that awful outing yesterday, chance of redemption....

The question is, if we get there, is what are our odds of winning on Saturday with the same pitching staff that we played with yesterday? 20%? Maybe we get the lucky bounces this time? Do we have a chance then? If it's really slim or less than 20%, than I look at it as if saving one of our aces for Saturday but then losing against Florida, as the same as playing your best to make it to Saturday, but knowing damn well youre not beating Oregon St with that mid week staff. Plain and simple you're not making it to the finals. Do you like your mid week staff's odds better against Florida state rather Oregon st in a game 2? Btw I understand the logic in playing to win the next game. Yeah you're possibly gone if you try to save the best for later. But I just like to look at the big picture. What's the point of getting to Saturday if we know we will lose? Do we have at least a decent chance?

We have some delusional freaking fans. Hess is a pretty darn good closer, but that doesn't mean he becomes an elite starter. We are just assuming because we're LSU we can win the next 3 games. We'll be doing good to get past FSU again.

We score 6 runs or more in each game we have a good shot!!
