re: If Brees wins another ring, will he be part of GOAT discussion?

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about this. I think a better argument might be that he will be the most under appreciated/underrated QB ever. He will basically hold every major statistical passing record when he's done playing, yet he still is overlooked in the Manning/Brady/Rodgers discussion. It's a damn shame we've wasted some of his best years because we can't put a competent defense on the field, and it hurts even more that we let 2011 get away.

He'll be in the discussion, I would think, for whatever that's worth.

Bradshaw won 4 titles but never was thought of as a great QB.
Huh???

Drew Brees is already in the discussion. Anyone who measures the greatness of a quarterback by a team's accomplishment [Super Bowl win(s)] is a moron.
Peyton Manning is the GOAT, though.

The Patriots went 11-5 the season that Brady was out with an injury. People conveniently like to leave that fact out of the discussion with Brady.
The season before, he almost went perfect with the team. People "conveniently" leave it out, because the team lost five more times than it did the year before. If a team lost their starting QB and went from 12-4 to 7-9, it wouldn't even register. As for the 2009 argument, players tend to take two years to get back after blowing out a knee.
I'm not bothering to give an opinion, because Drew is a fantastic QB, but it's painfully obvious a lot of you watch 5 clips a year and think you know a QB.

Uh no it's pretty hard to miss patriots games. I'm sorry, I'm more impressed watching drew play than Brady. He's not making the same kind of throws. When Brady throws deep, the guy is WIDE open
If anyone is more impressive to me as Bree's, it's Rodgers, not Brady. Football is a team sport

What is that 2 lines below your username.
Being human most people can't be objective in a discussion like this because their is a lot more than just stats involved. Too many variables. These 2 are definitely in the discussion but the discussion can't even begin until their careers are completed. If Brees or Brady play 2-5 more seasons who is to say what might transpire. If Brees were to win another ring or 2 he certainly would have to be in the conversation . Brady is already there.

It's a joke. I think Ed Reed is the GOAT, and Montana is the best QB to ever play.

This board never disappoints. Only on Saints Talk would the majority of morons who post here try to make Tom Brady seem like an average QB. UNfrickINGBELIEVABLE

Nobody ever said that. I think he's phenomenal. But the facts are he's never won a superbowl with a defense ranked worse than 8th in the league.....
5 rings would still be an incredible accomplishment if all those defenses were #1 i the league. Drew has made the playoffs every year the Saints fielded a slightly below average defense or better....The more times you make the playoffs, the more chances you have at rings. Drew belongs in the discussion, IMO

For saints fans, yes of course..
However, there's zero chance espn and NFL network push that agenda enough to make it possible.. they'd talk about him after the super bowl for a week or two, then he'd fade back into just being a present day, top 5 qb

He's arguably already among the GOAT candidates bc, barring an unpredicted immediate retirement or career-ending injury, he's already top ten all-time in all relevant QB stats, most 5,000 yd passing seasons ever, doesn't throw that many INTs nor is sacked a lot, doesn't fumble a lot and will likely surpass Manning for all the all-time QB stats. He's won the Super Bowl and that Super Bowl's MVP, most accurate QB in history, and 7th highest-rated passer ever. Of course he's included in the discussion.

Sadly I think you are right. ESPN doesn't want the short guy from Texas to be the GOAT
Posted on 6/19/17 at 8:57 pm to UptownG504
No because he plays for the Saints
Posted on 6/19/17 at 10:13 pm to UptownG504
No. The goal is 4 rings and winning 10+ games every year while throwing for 3,000+ yards, 20 TDs, and not many interceptions. All the while having Wide Receivers that no one remembers in March
Posted on 6/20/17 at 5:47 am to UptownG504
No, he doesn't live in a major media market, sucks for him..

I agree. But let's not forget the recently ranked best offense in the history of the league had Randy Moss (IMO the best ever). Also his group of studs this year is going to be ridiculous. Has ESPN started the comparison to Golden State and complain how it's bad for the sport yet?

No way he surpasses peyton or brady
