So had a boat pull up today and hook on to the platform with spear fisherman and some other fellows in it. The current has been ripping out here and blue water is pushed way out so was curious how they would do. First thing I noticed was while two guys were diving in the other three had lines in the water fishing. Now I dont spear fish but the last thing I would want while diving in the ocean is getting wrapped up in fishing line. I watched for a little bit then went on about my business. Well 10-15 min later I stroll back by and luckily see something a quarter of a mile or so away moving out with current. Finally I realize it is one of the divers and holler to the guys in the boat but they dont pay me much mind, I think they thought I was telling them to leave. So I go down to the bottom deck and tell them again that their diver is way the hell out there, they look but dont see him from the boat but I tell them I am sure it is a diver and they run and go get him.

Long story short another 5 minutes or so and he would have been completely out of sight even from the advantage point of the platform. The guys in the boat had no clue at all, pay attention out there fellas.

Smfh, easy to be complacent, but that just sounds reckless.

We do this most of the time when freediving. We dive inside the rig so you're never really around the fishing lines. A couple of the guys that like to come aren't divers so they fish while we dive

On the way back in from MP300, we stopped out at the MRGO rocks yesterday evening trying to catch a few trout/redfish, but the current was ripping around the rocks so fast it made it "difficult" to say the least. Be careful out there.

Man, the thought of losing a diver like this just makes me sick....and it sounds like it almost happened.

I understand that they just had services for the diver from Alexandria that went missing a few weeks back.
