Mainieri: If Eric Walker's bullpen goes well tomorrow, he'll start game 2...Poche' to the bullpen in that case

Poche to bullpen? Wouldn't he start game 3

Oh you
eta. unless you're laughing only about the idea of Poche to the pen, then I concur.

I suppose it all depends on what the situation is come game 2.

Yeah, I'm sure practice will decide this.
Fact is, Walker would have been perfect against FSU (as the lead the nation in walks) but the game is too important to mess around.
If we face Oregon State, it will be Poche.

Outside of love for Poche, there is no real argument that Walker isn't your number 2 starter.

Missing this part of the story though.

Paul says that plan is now a bit up in the air. Walker felt sore after sim game Tuesday night. May need extra day or two

Walker and Poche available to win game 2.
I like it.

Until he gets shelled. Like all pitchers, it can happen.
Let's just hope all our pitchers pitch like we know they can.
And put the gris gris on the opposing teams bats.

Dude's a fricking senior who just got drafted in the 9th. Get over it and pitch to your ability. Btw, I don't mean to imply that Poche will let it "wreck him mentally." I think he'll be fine and this comment is flat out wrong.
Fact is, we're trying to win the CWS and Walker has been the more consistent player down this stretch. If a player let's that get to them then they aren't a great player.

Man I'm hyped for game one. Win that and then let's get into the game two plus decisions. Forget about anything but FSU right now

Walker has not pitched in a game since the regionals.
Posted on 6/16/17 at 2:36 pm to gumbeaux
Yes, but he pitched in a simulated game Tuesday and has had arm soreness. So Paul is planning to pitch him Monday if he feels good after throwing tomorrow.

I think he means he'll be available out of the pen if needed. If he's not he'd probably start a Game 3. Of course if we win our first two, Lange could conceivably come back and start Game 3. He did that in 09 with Ranaudo.

There are too few games left to worry about that now. Poche is not coming back next season. So as harsh as it is to say, his mentality as a result of such a move is immaterial to the lone goal...wining the CWS. If LSU can win the first two games it's going to be tough for someone to keep them from getting to the championship series.
Game 2 is either going to give LSU a shot to seemingly lock up a spot in the championship series OR battle to save their season. Poche hasn't looked good in his two postseason starts against weaker line ups than what he will see in Omaha. If PM doesn't trust him, now is not the time to hope he figures it out.
