A lot of trees move to husqvarna, echo, Sthil, etc.

A few trees weekend warrior.
Remington, Poulon, off brand names, electric ones, weaker battery powered ones.

Get a few chains or learn to sharpen a chain.
Read owners manual for the right bar chain oil. Some units have plastic housing and bar chain oil can eat the plastic up. Some use 10w30. Just remember read the owners manual.

I would get a straight shaft Stihl. I have a Stihl pole saw, two Stihl string trimmers and a Stihl chainsaw and have not had a single complaint about any of them.

Before you get into this though, you need to know that you are going to work your arse off.

As far as setting up a burn pile, there is nothing high tech about it...just try to have it in a place that doesn't look too bad and that you can keep an eye on it when it burns. the ability to reach it with a water hose will give you some comfort, but not necessary if you only burn when it is not too dry.

While a Gator is nice for hauling saws, water, and you...it is certainly not necessary. Anything that you cut with a pole saw is generally not going to get hauled in the gator, but you may drag a good bit of limbs there. the same function can be had by having access to pickup truck of any age or condition.

When we prune, we hook the trailer we pull the 4 wheeler in to the 4 wheeler itself. Think it's 5 x 10 trailer. Does a fine job and beats the hell out using the truck bed especially in wet soggy conditions.

Have no idea what the hell you're saying but I put a long rope down, lay A LOT of branches on top, tie bundle and tie to ball on 4 wheeler and drag to pasture.

Amazing how fast it goes.

Yeah I use my 4 wheeler and a trailer. Position trailer under limbs and cut them to fall onto the trailer. My trailer fenders have some dents and bends

He takes the 4 wheeler off the trailer and then hooks that trailer to the 4 wheeler

Exactly, sorry I missed some details in there

But yeah cut and let the branches fall into the trailer if you can. Definitely helps save some energy.

In r Garda to the echo are you guys talking about the attachment version or a completely independent machine? I've been looking at getting the pole cutting attachment for the trimmer for a while now.

I generally just tie off a chain to one of the larger limbs and pile the rest of the limbs on top...then hook up and drag the whole pile.

That's my next topic: How to set up a good burn pile. Do's and Don'ts?? And what do I need to haul the logs aka Gator???

you might consider renting a skid steer with a grapple, depending on how many trees you got. completely agree with the poster cautioning you to not be too ambitious when youre cutting. really easy to get overwhelmed.

i also use a telescoping stihl.

Ours is the attachment for the Stihl Kombi system. Think max reach with the extension is about 9 ft. Which is not as good as the dedicated telescoping units.

I bought the extension saw attachment for me trimmer head. Has served me well for 5+ years at the deer lease.

$99

Mine is a craftsman. As someone else stated, 4 hours of working pipe saw will wear your arse out.

Great information OB as always. This city boy is moving out in the country and my wife is from New Orleans so it will truly be Green Acres.
Amazingly my wife is game. I'm trying to learn from y'all so I don't kill myself or burn the place down. Thanks

I've had the 6ft Stihl for years and have no complaints. Only thing I would do over would probably go with the 8ft version for the extra reach. The additional weight isn't much betwee nthe two.

I also have the Harbor Freight and have zero complaints. The head is heavy enough that all you have to do is get the chain on the top of the branch and let the weight of the saw do the work.

Even at our deer cap that's what I use. I just ride around with my little HF generator and extension cord on the 4 wheeler.

Hell, last year I put the generator in the front bucket of the tractor and I got in there with it and my brother drove me around and lifted me up to cut the high branches. You talk about a sight.

My neighbor has a Stihl gas pole saw he let me borrow and it's a beast. I swear it must be able to extend at least 25 feet.

I have the same attachment for my Stihl power head great saw, we also bought the 3ft extension which isn't the traditional metal but a light weight version works well

I've got the Stihl HT 131 that I love but it is heavy. Some of that weight can be offset with a good shoulder strap setup they offer. They don't sell my model anymore but it has a 16ft reach so if you don't need that much extension just get the fixed one.

greenworks corded pole saw amazon

I bout this a few years ago. Man its fricking awesome. After the chain stretched a bit I put it back on and you can't kill it. I've cut trailers of bamboo with it. This year I cut down an 8 inch gumball tree. I had to cut from two sides but figured frick it if it breaks it was $60 and I've run it to he'll. Original chain. Just keep it oiled and the guard clear of debris. It's soooo much better that I would have though.

I'm amazed that a corded saw could do all of that. You sure can't beat that price.
