The state House on Wednesday gutted the membership of the thee-year-old Louisiana Law Enforcement Body Camera Implementation Task Force leaving only legislators, and three law enforcement representatives. Among the representatives stripped from the task force were: the ACLU, the NAACP, the Louisiana Press Association, the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters, the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the state public defender.
"It would appear that there are some voices and some perspectives that would be eliminated, particularly those advocates for government transparency, and I think that's unfortunate," said Marjorie Esman, executive director of ACLU Louisiana. Esman said she wasn't notified until after the House took action that she could be eliminated from the the group.

I read this yesterday and was confused. Wouldn't she WANT the bodycams? And the people they removed WANT the body cams. The people remaining might be opposed, no?

And you get two downvotes. Amazing how many people claim to love individual liberty but have no idea what it actually looks like.

Good. If police have cameras then they get in trouble for doing illegal shite, and when cops get in trouble people get paid out in tax dollars. frick that.
Keep cops out of trouble, back the blue.

she said its' b/c they didn't get anything done b/c of the dissenting views
so
she wants a half-assed, likely toothless law/regulation just so she can claim she did something. typical politician trash

I think you are mostly correct but I also think she is just straight up getting bamboozled by people smarter than her. Meaning just about anyone. The worrisome part of this is they are letting the fox guard the hen house on this thing. Just wait until the footage isn't Public Record and not discoverable. It's going to be a tool only available to law enforcement which is pretty much where we are at without the cameras. So save the money and don't have them if that is going to be the case.

well if the ACLU and defense attorneys' groups were kicked out, i assume the pro-LEO faction(s) on the task force

So she wanted to throw the baby out with the bathwater

i think she just wants her name on (pointless, wasteful) legislation so she can claim a victory and put a feather in her cap

It's hard to understate how much good publicity helps the boys in blue. Removing them doing shady things from the public purview should immensely help that.

Surely this woman doesn't like to draw attention to herself, right?

i agree. i don't see why they don't get this
they're protecting a small chunk of terrible officers b/c of the "wall of blue" when this could be a tool to defend/exonerate the "good guys" a lot more than it would be used to prosecute the "bad guys"

Two questions: What was she paid and who paid her.
