The only real advantage Kobe has over Wade is 16k extra minutes.

Bingo. Kobe has longevity and a more sustained peak/high level play.

Wade's peak is higher than Kobe's, that's not even a controversial statement, to be honest.

I mean.. After MJ and LeBron I think you're pretty much splitting hairs between: Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Russell, Kareem.

Other than Duncan, which I believe is advantage Duncan, try starting a thread saying Kobe > Shaq, Magic, Bird, Wilt, Russell, or Kareem, and let me know how that goes.

The general consensus would be that Kobe is behind all of those guys.

Anything else you want to base it on would show up in the production/efficiency numbers, so you can't double count.

Most 1st team all NBA selections of all time
Most 1st team all defense selections of all time
5 rings
3rd all time leading scorer

These are a few of the things I value. You can't tell me what I can and cannot base my opinion on.

So, just to confirm. You value the votes of some guys you never heard of over how a guy produces, and how efficiently he produces?

Think about that for a second, how do you explain that logically?

Don't confirm that. As that's not what I said. I said these are a few of the things I value.

Without googling real quick, how many of those voters can you name from the All NBA ballots that Kobe had?

You don't think that kinda matters, knowing who voted on these things you hold valuable?

This isn't really a fair question cause of Shaqs power and people automatically imagine a 2v2 tourney to settle it, myself included.

The answer is Jordan and Pippen. It's not even close. Pippen could have easily won MVP in 94. That team lost Michael Jordan and was still damn good. Lost to the Knicks in 7 who lost to the NBA Champs in 7.

Fair enough. I think Kobe is an interesting case. He's got one MVP, and even that award was more of a career achievement than the best player in the league. His longevity at an incredibly high level is awesome, but you can make the argument that his reign as the best player in the league was only 1 year, if at all.

That's a biggie to me. 1-2 years at the very most did he have an argument as the best player in the league.

Knowing individual names? No I don't think that matters.

You can't sit here and say these consensus opinions don't matter then go point at espn, fox, cbs or whatever and say their opinions matter.

But furthermore, hell yes I respect the consensus opinions of NBA writers who follow the game much closer than I do. I don't care if I can only name a few of them.

IMO Kobe should've won the MVP in 2006

Wow. Ok.

Sure I can, why can't i? Remember, we weren't arguing whether we agreed, we were just telling you that you were wrong to say it was a concensus. Why can't someone point to ESPN/FOX/CBS as proof that it's not a consensus?

if that's your favorite player/team, you're probably watching more Kobe games than the majority of those voters you don't know.

I think Nash was a bit ridiculous, but Dirk has a better argument than Kobe, who finished closer to 5th in the voting than he did to 3rd.

Kobe just shot the ball 27 times a game that year on a really bad team. He was great, but MVP worthy is tough that year.

Jordan couldn't defend Kobe. Kobe lit him for 39 points in a HALF in 98

Except that's not true. Kobe never outscored Jordan in H2H matchups when Jordan was with the Bulls. The only time Kobe scored more than 33 points in a game against Jordan was in 2003 when Jordan was past his prime and on the Wizards.
