This isn't really a fair question cause of Shaqs power and people automatically imagine a 2v2 tourney to settle it, myself included.
The answer is Jordan and Pippen. It's not even close. Pippen could have easily won MVP in 94. That team lost Michael Jordan and was still damn good. Lost to the Knicks in 7 who lost to the NBA Champs in 7.

Fair enough. I think Kobe is an interesting case. He's got one MVP, and even that award was more of a career achievement than the best player in the league. His longevity at an incredibly high level is awesome, but you can make the argument that his reign as the best player in the league was only 1 year, if at all.

You can't sit here and say these consensus opinions don't matter then go point at espn, fox, cbs or whatever and say their opinions matter.
But furthermore, hell yes I respect the consensus opinions of NBA writers who follow the game much closer than I do. I don't care if I can only name a few of them.

I think Nash was a bit ridiculous, but Dirk has a better argument than Kobe, who finished closer to 5th in the voting than he did to 3rd.
Kobe just shot the ball 27 times a game that year on a really bad team. He was great, but MVP worthy is tough that year.

Except that's not true. Kobe never outscored Jordan in H2H matchups when Jordan was with the Bulls. The only time Kobe scored more than 33 points in a game against Jordan was in 2003 when Jordan was past his prime and on the Wizards.
