LINK

Could someone post the pics from the link? I'm on mobile and it's a pain in the butt.

As to the story...

quote:

We have seen, heard of, and documented whooping cranes doing a lot of interesting things but this might top them all. Two LA whooping cranes are in Canada! Yes, you read that correctly, they are in Saskatchewan, Canada, having flown approximately 1,650 miles in 9 days!!

In the comments LDWF says it's 2 one year old males. Flew the route perfectly. They thought they may have followed sandhill cranes, but none were seen with them. If they make it back and breed next year, LA's whooping cranes could really start a migrating population. That's huge.

man, that is very cool. I always enjoy seeing sandhill cranes when duck hunting in Cameron Parish. I sure hope one day I see a Whooping Crane before I get too old to enjoy it.

That's freaking 7mph if they didn't take a single break. Crazy.

Update:

One is headed back South!
quote:

On the move! Remember the yearling males that headed north into Canada? One of them, L3-16, is on his way back south and arrived in Kansas last weekend! Check out the map to view his journey since leaving Louisiana on 6 May!

The whereabouts of L4-16 are currently unknown. His remote transmitter failed shortly after the two left Louisiana and he was not found with L3-16 on 31 August.
