Gilbert, Lange, Poche.
This and plan for rain delays. That's gonna be the huge wildcard. Don't rule out some very weird pieced-together games on the mound. I'm talking about a scenario where we lose Lange after pitching 3 innings so we bring him back later in the regional to pitch a must-have inning or two. I have a feeling this is gonna be a patch-work pitching regional which very much works against us but I think we'll come out on top.

Mainieri doesn't expect to have to pitch Walker this weekend, which is why he let him pitch so long yesterday.
Gilbert, Lange, Poche.
If you don't pitch him this weekend then there's a chance he doesn't get a chance to pitch the following weekend. If LSU makes it to the Supers, the rotation is going to be Lange, Poche, Walker. You don't want Walker's first start in 3 weeks to be in Omaha.

This. For supers, we know it will be Lange-Poche-Walker, and in Omaha Lange is throwing Game 1. So if Walker doesn't throw this weekend, then you kind of hope you take supers in two and he doesn't throw that weekend. You don't want him sitting in the dugout until Omaha.

Good point. I didn't think about that.

One bit of constructive criticism for Paul - swap out the roles of Hess and Newman.

I'd wait to see who our opponents are but would tend to go with our regular weekend rotation. I would also like to know what the weather forecast is closer to game day.

I'm sure he appreciates the help, but......no

With potential weather give it to Gilbert game one knowing you'll use Walker at some point if play is stopped and resumes.

Neither?
It's Poche, Lange, then Walker.

Exactly.
We have 3 quality starting pitchers, unlike some years in the past. The three of them should start the first three games. You don't plan for an "if necessary" game. We should go 3-0 in this regional.
Can't risk Walker not making a real start for 2.5 weeks.

Why wouldn't you want to ensure your top 3 guys get a start? I think it's way overthinking starting anyone but them the first game
It is.
There is no logical reason to start anyone but Poche, Lange, and Walker the first three games.
ETA: 3 for SS
