Will NFL rules favoring WRs cause a long waiting list for HoF in the future?

NFL puts in 5 new HoF members every year for all positions. But there's a currently a list for WRs. And the list will get longer since 1000 yd season ain't what it used to be.

Players waiting or will be waiting:
TO
Issace Bruce
Moss
Hines Ward(very deserving)
Tory Holt
Reggie Wayne
Andre Johnson
Calvin Johnson
Boldin
Fitzgerald
Steve Smith
Brandon Marshall

More down road
Jordy Nelson
Antonio
Julio
AJ Green
Beckham

I don't see a lot of those guys getting into the hall in the next dozen years, WR is a tough position to get in. Plus at least 9 spots will be going to QBs/TEs/Kicker

That's 17 wide receivers that played between in the last ten years.

Wide receivers that played between 1947-2007 in the Hall of Fame: 22 or 25 depending how you would classify Crazy Legs Hirsh, Bobby Mitchell, and Charlie Taylor

I'd expect more and more receivers to be hall of famers due to the amount of passing increasing. Imagine the numbers Odell is capable of if he continues at his current pace.

Because of historic bias by the people who cover the sport...and grew up in an era 40 catches in a year was a great year.

Fred Biletnikoff had 43 receptions for 551 yards in the Raiders 1976 Super Bowl winning season. And he's in the HOF.

Two years ago Julio Jones had 136 receptions for almost 2,000 yards. Sniff.

The game has changed so dramatically on offense with handicapped defenses - it all depends how the HOF views these numbers...with awe or a shrug...because most of the players knocking on the door at WR from recent times have similar gaudy numbers compared to guys of the past.

TO deserves the hall of fame. Can anybody say otherwise other than he didn't kiss arse the right way? He put up no matter how much he ran his mouth.

I have a feeling they will increase the number of open spots every year soon. Makes sense given expansion of the league and how much exposure they've obtained since the hall was formed

You think Steve Smith, Boldin, Marshall, and Andre Johnson are/were even HOF caliber players?

I think they'll all be waiting forever.

Smith, boldin, and andre are all around 1000 catches, 14000 yds, 80 tds. Marshall will get there.

Steve Smith - yes (but I'm biased)

Only 11th in career yards. No big deal.

Very good for a long time. Not the best of the best IMO.

ETA: I wouldn't argue against though. He was the closest of the bunch.

TO and Moss. No one else on that list was as dominant at their position like these two were for their career. They are clearly the best WRs of their generation.

Of the ten guys ahead of him, 7 aren't in Canton. And they just chose a kicker over the guy that is #2 on the list.

The three Wrs that are in, all have 100+ Tds and a combined half dozen Super Bowl appearances. Johnson has one post season touchdown.

The selection committee has been working for several years to clear a backlog of WRs. Andre Reed, Chris Carter, Tim Brown, and M. Harrison have recently been inducted. The thought was that TO was supposed to go in this year. That would have been 5 WRs in 5 consecutive years and cleared the backlog for the next wave of WRs.

Passing & receiving stats won't matter as much from a historical perspective because the game and rules are so different now. WRs will be judged against their contemporaries, with things like All Pro selections mattering more than stats measured against WRs from other eras.

Tim brown had to wait a long time, and TO is waiting longer than he should. I don't expect many guys you listed to make the HOF anytime soon.
