It seems unbelievable to me that Minnesota lawmakers could be intimidated by these Muslim freaks. But then again, this is the state that gave us Keith Ellison and Al Franken.

Since the bill’s near-unanimous passage in the Minnesota House this week, some longtime critics of the ritual have met with senators, lobbied the governor’s office and handed out fliers — all to raise alarm about the legislation.

The Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage, a nonprofit called Isuroon and other groups argue that the legislation carries overly harsh punishment and unintended consequences, including the possibility that newcomers from countries where genital cutting is widespread would not seek medical care and other services for their children. They call for a less punitive approach focused on educating parents.

Now, the author of the Senate version is voicing second thoughts about approving the legislation yet this session, though Senate GOP leadership have not committed to a course of action. “We all agree this practice is absolutely horrible, and something needs to be done,” said the author, Sen. Karin Housley. “How can we empower communities to address this practice from within rather than having Big Brother come down and say, ‘This is wrong?’?”

Rep. Mary Franson, who introduced the House bill, said the Senate is bowing to pressure from groups “more concerned with perception than doing the right thing and protecting girls.”

But she and other critics balk at separating girls from their families, which they argue victimizes them a second time. They say they worry about families arriving from places where the practice is deeply rooted.

This might be the most ignorant thing I've read this year. Who the frick cares what is "deeply rooted" where they come from.

How many genital-mutilating Africans and Middle-Easterners do they plan on bringing in to their state?

I have to bike through little Mogadishu everyday to get to work. In addition to the littering everywhere, the smell is just god awful. Before I hit the neighborhood, I wrap my bandana around my nose. The staunchness of the smell that emanates from these apartment is nauseating.

I worry about them also, those freaks will never assimilate and shouldn't be resettled here. It is insanity.

It's insane that this is even debatable in a civilized society.

Jesus Christ what has happened to our country.

How far have we fallen as a country when a bill like this is necessary?

Not overly harsh punishment for permanently militating a child!!!! That would be literally Hitler to expect people not to do this.

This is exactly right. Look at some of the pro-Sharia literature and they don't want assimilation. They want separation. You come to the United States, which is a melting pot, then you need to assimilate to our Constitutuion and Laws. Failure to commit to this should bar you from immigration and you get to stay in whatever Country you are coming from

Funny, Big Brother doesn't seem to have a problem telling anyone else 'This is wrong'. What's so special about these people?

There wouldn't be any of this agonizing and hand-wringing if this was a bill that affected Christians.

Of course it does.

There are as many as a few thousand Somails there.

Of course the millions of other Minnesotans MUST bend to their wants.
