Apparently an infielder. I will update as soon as I know more.

For the record our recruiting class for 2018 is ranked #8 with two top 20 players committed. 2019 we are ranked #6 with two top 15 players committed.

Class of 2020 we are ranked #5

I'm not too familiar with softball but I was under the impression that Torina is one of the better coaches in the country. I'm guessing yall don't think Torina is a good coach? Is it that she is a good recruiter but a below average coach? I'm seriously asking and not trying to sound like an a-hole.

Well three world series appearances in the last 5 years speaks volumes. Its not easy to be there. college softball today is ridiculously competitive.

She recruits well. Some players have panned out some, haven't. Its the nature of sports but she does a nice job. LSU softball is competitive nationally and has a major following. We are never in trouble with the NCAA or have any major problems. Torina is still pretty young.

I am very excited about the future here. her future classes are much more dynamic than what we have seen thus far.

You do realize Doyle primarily practiced at 3B all fall and most this season and she is really good there. She has seen looks there a bit this season. The adjustment is not major at all.

You do realize that teams develop something called chemistry that takes most of the season to develop... They dont have this in the fantasy leagues.

You also wanted to move a true freshman that is batting like 220 to leadoff???

Andrews??

In SEC play Andrews has batted .288 and .337 overall ALL SEASON. with a .327 OBP

Emily Griggs batted .225 in SEC play and .295 overall with a .262 OBP

What the hell are you talking about? Emily has ALWAYS hit for a better average when lower in the lineup. I want Emily in the lineup I am just sayin Andrews would probably be more effective lead off.

IDK where the .220 comes from or did you pull it out your arse?

I have a question about Dawson. I constantly see posts here talking about her and how great she is. I've watched a lot of games this year and I have never seen her contribute. This is in no way a slam on the player but I constantly see posters asking why she isn't playing. I have to think Beth wants to win and tries to put the team in the best position but I don't see Dawson in the mix much. So what's up?

The Cajuns also took 2 of 3 vs. Bama and won at A&M. They're potent and tested.

Oh dear God, now you have done it. As soon as a few certain poster's Dawson Bat-Signal activates and they see this post, this thread will turn into an utter shite-show.

Rational thoughts: she is a very gifted athlete that will likely get more playing time next year. I think her game needs work. She seems to get out of the batter's box slowly after she hits the ball. Compare her to Landry. When Bailey slaps, she is flying out of the box in an instant. Dawson needs to improve on that. And I suspect her playing time has been limited by some factor that we are not privy to...like not practicing well, being late for team functions, missing class, or something else behind the scenes. (I'm not saying these are true, I'm just giving examples).

Dawson has been used at times in pinch hit spots and done well at times. Her future is bright.

Soon, others will come here and tell you that she should have been starting from day 1, that the coaches are fools for not seeing this, that the coaches are holding her back (since coaches hate winning) and will shite on a couple of other players in making this point.

I'll let you be the judge of who is rational and who is not.

I really didn't know anything about her. I just read her bio and see she is a local BR product, so I can understand the locals wanting to see her play. I think a coach who has gotten to OKC 2 straight years knows a little about how to put together a team so she is seeing or maybe not seeing something to make the decisions she is making.

Dawson's bio:

quote:

Was named an NFCA High School All-American and a MaxPreps Preseason All-American… As a senior hit .658 with five home runs, 36 RBIs, 65 runs scored and 58 stolen bases, earning the NFCA’s Golden Shoe award for the nation’s top base stealer… Holds the Louisiana school record in steals, hits and runs scored, while setting the national record for triples with 49… Ranked in the top 10 nationally in steals, runs scored and triples…

Very impressive. And I think she will develop and we are going to see more flashes of that next year. But some of the more adamant and hard-headed posters think she should have been gifted a spot in the starting lineup from day 1 and that all of those numbers would just automatically transfer to SEC ball...but as you astutely stated,
quote:

I think a coach who has gotten to OKC 2 straight years knows a little about how to put together a team so she is seeing or maybe not seeing something to make the decisions she is making.

I also tend to defer to the opinion of the coaches who see the players 20 hours a week over the opinion of wannabe travel ball coaches who think they have it all figured out from their seat in the bleachers.

Check this thread again tomorrow. We will be lectured for the umpteenth time as to how the coaches play favorites to seniors and how Dawson hasn't been given a fair chance and how the whole thing is a "head scratcher".

Coaches do things for reasons that are none of our business and that's how it should stay. Some people should take that to heart and just get over it.

Both points can be true even at the same time.

It is possible that Beth thinks Dawson needs to improve in some areas.

And we all know that some coaches do have favorites just like fans have favorites.

I don't know Beth at all so I don't have a clue.

I just hope that they make a good strong run this year and build to the future.

Just another opinion.

Hopefully both Beth and CPM will recruit and actually succeed at getting more power into our lineups.

Thank you to b... and 357 for the post and ongoing discussion.

Hell, there could be that many ejections from Tiger Park if the LSU/ULL game happens and it gets too rowdy

I'd also move the batting order around, and would have either Nicky Dawson or Andrews leading off. Put Griggs 6th.

Andrews
Jaquish
Landry
Doyle
Springfield
Griggs
Quinn
Serret
Dawson

I would probably move Doyle to Third, put Springfield at First, and DP Nicky Dawson.

Agree but this has been obvious for quite some time and the more obvious it has gotten the less Dawson has played at the end of the year. We saw Andrews have good success in the lead off spot but for whatever reason the staff didn't like that line up and defaulted back to Griggs.

Sanchez has been and will remain the weak link on both offense and defense on this team. But, for whatever reason, Beth sometimes chooses to live and die with her instinct and completely ignore performance and that is the case here. Essentially Sanchez has beaten out Dawson as a hitter (which is hard to fathom) since it would be extremely easy to get Sanchez out and Dawson in if the staff saw the same thing as the rest of us. Should be an interesting regional.

I just hope they dont bring sentimentality into this regional. Play the best. Every player has had a chance. Base the lineup on performance.

Not to make this a fuss about Dawson but this gets me...

quote:

I think her game needs work. She seems to get out of the batter's box slowly after she hits the ball.

I don't necessarily agree. In your defense though, Landry has been playing softball longer than Dawson so maybe experience and more reps have helped Landry get out of the box in an instant. That being said, Nicky ain't no slouch in the speed department. Everyone knows that.

And if Dawson isn't playing because her game needs work, I'm not sure what kind of work she needs.

Downvote away, but maybe Sanchez, Quinn, Serrett, and a few others respective games' may need work too by that logic. I hate to bring stats into this but those three are hitting .231, .248, and .248 respectively. I'm sure their games could use work too. They may need work on the defensive level too because their fielding .926, .958, and .933 respectively. This is not me shitting on those girls, I'm just using stats to make a point. I don't want to ruffle feathers. I want the best contributors and the girls with the best chance to help us win to play.

You very well could be right about issues behind the scenes. Maybe, maybe not. It's impossible to know, only Beth and the staff and players know if something's up.

I hope I kept it as rational and reasonable as possible. That said, let's hope for a great weekend. Nothing I want more for this team than to fulfill their potential. Let's hope they catch fire this weekend and next.

I would like to have a rational discussion about this general observation that I have made and would love input from some of the "mechanic gurus" we have who post here who know an infinite amount more about the mechanics of batting than I do...and I would be curious to see if they agree with or refute what I "think" I am seeing.

I am not saying Dawson's foot-speed is slow...I am saying it seems to take her a little while to get rolling toward first after she puts it in play. I don't doubt that she would edge out Landry in a straight-up foot race.

What I have seen is this....and do correct me if I am leaving out certain factors or if my eyes are deceiving me... but it seems like every time Bailey hits the ball on the infield, it is a close play at 1st base, no matter how hard/soft she hits it or where she hits it.

When Dawson hits similar balls, it seems like she is thrown out at first by a full step. Granted, the infield may be playing a little closer when Dawson hits...but infields do play Bailey pretty close, also.

So the question is this....if Dawson is indeed a little faster as far as pure speed goes, then why does Landry seem to get to first faster? The logical conclusion that I would come to is that there is something in their approaches that is different. Dawson will hit balls that I think are going to be tight plays at first...then I look up and she is out by a step.

Anyone notice the same thing? Is Dawson's method of slapping a little different than Landry's? Or am I just a middle-aged man who is going senile, blind, and seeing things that aren't there?
