I have POA dues where I live and am like 3 months behind. Mainly because they have been working on my road and have royally screwed it up so I am protesting.

I live in a development with townhomes and a swimming pool.
We pay HOA fees to clean the outside of our buildings, landscaping, security (off-duty po-po), and pool maintenance.
Its $150 a month and worth every fricking penny. I don't have to mow, trim, weed, clean, etc. anything. outside my house except for my front porch and patio. Pool is kept up and nice and the security keeps the riff raff out (live in a "gentrifying" area).

STFU dude, we know you wanted to be liked so decided to become the HOA president, but it means nothing to anyone.
Our HOA dues are 107 a month for a tiny park with the smallest possible piece of children's jungle gym equipment, 4 sided, maybe 2 feet high, with a small platform in the middle.
It's a disgust that thousands are collected monthly for that.

Most neighborhoods don't need them and those are the neighborhoods that the HOA board is generally a bunch of people that get a power trip and put their noses in stupid shite.
Bigger neighborhoods like those that people have mentioned that have lots of amenities like pools, tennis courts, walking trails, playgrounds, etc an HOA becomes much more useful and keeps your property values high.
I live in an HOA neighborhood and have never had any problems with them.
Pro tip: one way of getting around their rules and regulations is to find examples of them not enforcing them elsewhere. When we were building our house we wanted a certain type of window that was not allowed per the regs, so I took photos of a few houses around the neighborhood that had the same windows and the architect magically approved them the next day.

Also, I was asked by my neighbors to run for HOA board and I have politely declined.
If the money starts getting wasted, I will definitely do it though.

Are you still living around here, or did you move out of town?

Not a HOA president, but nice try. I don't particularly even like HOA's. But how can you justify people who move in, knowing full well about HOA dues, and then refusing to pay?

HOA dues
Are one of the most ridiculous things to have. I see no reason why if you own your own home, you have to be concerned with what other people think of it. And even less reason why you have to pay "dues" for something you don't honestly want to be apart of anyhow.

You're basically stealing from your neighbors

Generally speaking HOA's are a waste of money.
Why let someone else tell you what you can and can't do with your property?
Because it prevents poor decisions... Even wealthy homeowners make poor decisions and prevents them from having pigs and goats in their front yard.

A lot of generalized responses saying along the lines of "price will keep trash neighbors out". You'd be surprised. That's all I'm going to say.

FYI, in Louisiana, HoA Liens fall just behind Mort gauge company and IRS liens on the totem pole.....
And when filing a property lien, you can roll in the deficient amount, cost of the lien, cost of attorney fees, and interest.
Also, i certain cases the HoA can start a Foreclosure on the property....
PS i served on a HoA board and we had 20% of the home owners delinquent at one point....

If you have any common ares within the neighborhood, then the neighborhood mast maintain and insure these properties at a bare minimum. 1/3 of our dues, management fees were another 1/3

People that bitch about HOA's should get better people running it. In Old Dutchtown, you see your fee's put to good use. I have zero problems cutting that check every year.

Sounds like big government.
Never lived where one was required, never had a problem with neighbors or they with me.

It's a pain to be on the board. Most people have a power trip while people like me got suckered into it. Rest want everyone else to do something while they are lazy. We had one member trying to get all his friends on the board to pocket the money on the side by saying he was providing services when he was not. I finally told the person I had a CPA and I would like to pay for an audit. At that point that person quit which left me having to clean the books up, paying my CPA out of my pocket to try to trace where money went. Then I still had to deal with making sure green spaces are maintained, events are done, and services are maintained. It turned into me basically babysitting grown adults to make sure things would get done or keep other people with power trips inline.
Never again I cringe when I hear people wanting a HOA, crime prevention district, or neighborhood association for my area. All I see is corruption which comes from my experience being on a bad board.
In Louisiana you do have to file with the Secretary of State and you have to have open meetings, financial disclosures, etc. HOA (setup by builder and dues are required), crime prevention districts (forced property tax), and Neighborhood Association (voluntarily dues more of service organization) are regulated by the state similar to EBRPCOA. It is really simple to steal money from the organization if you have greedy people in office.
Remember anytime there is money people get greedy and corruption can happen.

Did the former president get in any legal trouble after you busted him?

When will I be surprised? I've lived in my own house for over 25 years in the town most shite upon by the OT, and it still hasn't happened.
