How do so many people in louisiana afford to send their kids to private schools?

Can't speak for Louisiana, but in Alabama most private schools aren't that expensive. The bigger cities have a handful that are, then a bunch of more moderately priced ones. The latter are almost always connected to a church.

Get out in the rural areas, and the private schools aren't expensive at all. They're priced just high enough to keep the poorer whites and blacks out.

Most private schools EVERYWHERE are not that expensive, but there are plenty of high tuition schools if you are willing to pay for it.

There are basically 3 private schools in Montgomery that were created to educate white kids after segregation. They're good schools but parents probably shell out $15K per kid for K-12. The schools know that that the rich white families will keep paying whatever tuition it takes to keep their kids out of the awful public school system in Montgomery. A lot of the tuition is paid for by grandparents.
