Unger was listed as Questionable with a foot injury starting in Week 14 last season and remained there for the rest of the season Week 14 Injury Report
So I'm guessing the rehab wasn't going well and needed surgery??

I think PUP is the most likely scenario as of right now. I guess this means Jack Allen makes the initial 53 unless they bring in a veteran like Mangold.
You could sign Mangold & have Kelemete back him up. Sign Allen to the practice squad & activate him if Mangold gets hurt. That is assuming Allen beats out Cameron Tom(UDFA we just signed) in the preseason.

Yep Allen was a good get as an UDFA, and at least we have time to figure something out.

We could also go with Kelemete at Center. He has plenty of time to get the practice in.

Karma says we have to be due good luck with injuries at some point. Wtf

To be fair, we've been lucky with Unger thus far.
He has an injury history.

God dammit.
Just sign Mangold. We cant risk having a weak link on the best damn offensive line in the league. Armstead is going to go down at some point (until he plays a full season I will expect him to miss a game or 2) so we need depth. And Mangold can fill in at either guard after Unger comes back.
I wouldnt even bet on Max coming back knowing he's been battling this since week 14. frick that. Get insurance NOW, while he's (mangold) still available.

Very true, we got options there, and some time to figure it out. It's a bad news, but I'm not that worried.

Latest on Mangold as of April 6...He visited the Ravens & left without a deal.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports there is "nothing imminent" between the Ravens and free agent C Nick Mangold.
GM Ozzie Newsome sparked speculation by saying there is a "high probability" the Ravens add a free agent before the draft, but it looks like he was pointing to a reunion with DB Lardarius Webb. Still, Mangold makes a lot of sense for the Ravens if he is healthy, and La Canfora reports the team is "comfortable with his medicals." It will not be surprising if Mangold ends up in Baltimore.

This makes it a no brainer imo. Just not sure what kind of money he's looking for, but we have plenty of money left to spend. A 33 years old Center coming off an injury can't be too expensive...even though he was the best center in the NFL for a while.
He's one of the best free agents still available. I assume he wants to sign with a contender considering he's played for the Jets his entire career.

dammit every freakin year. Go get him:
Nick Mangold, C, Jets. Age: 33.
Nick Mangold was once the best center in the NFL. He's been injured quite a bit the past two years, so he can no longer maintain that status. However, when healthy, Mangold is still a terrific player. He's 33 now, but interior linemen have been able to play at a high level until their mid-to-late 30s.
100% this. If he still wants to play bring him in now. Lots of those vets who don't have a team are waiting for this exact scenario with a starter getting hurt early

Also I don't see Mangold wanting to go somewhere where he's almost guaranteed to play the first half of the season, and then be benched for the stretch run. I don't see NO being a viable or intriguing destination for him.

We could guarantee him starter at Center for the 1st half of the season, & a chance to compete for starting guard in the 2nd half. Unger also might not come back from his injury 100%. It's not like he has a ton of options due to his age & injuries the last couple of years. He might bite if we offer him enough. Plenty of potential for him to play here.
If we sign him to a 1 year deal & he plays at a high level without getting injured...he could get a good 2 year deal from some team in 2018.
We got AP & he's in kind of a similar situation. I don't see why he wouldn't take a 1 year deal for like 3mil. We have the money to make it happen.
Ryan Wendell & Cody Wallace are still available as well...not sure if they are an upgrade from Kelemete or Allen though.

Nick Underhill just tweeted me that he is trying to get confirmation and everyone he has talked to so far has no idea where this report is coming from.
