Exactly same stupid ppl saying the same stupid shite every year on draft night. X player is graded as the best blah blah blah then the games start and we continue to suck.

That's how mistakes are made. You take the best player available within reason. That's what the Saints did. That's smart drafting. I think they got the best CB and OT in the draft.

The picks were at positions of need as well. It was a great draft.

Agreed.

Willie McGinest said, "It's a need...one of the best players defensively in the draft...put him at corner for 5 years....not only fits but one of the best value picks in the draft...".

McGinest was very excited about the Saints Marshon Lattimore pick. Sleep well Saints fans.

Why not trade up to get Foster?

Because he wasnt even on our board thats why. Pittsbrgh needed an ILB and OLB and passed on Foster. That speaks volumes. Ryan was rated in the top half of our board. Unless Taco and Watt had higher grades, Foster was NEVER going to be a Saint.

But carry on

Need vs bpa is largely a myth.

You take the bpa at a position of need. Every team prioritizes differently and none of them gaf about kipers big board. Last rule, never reach.

We actually got the BPA for two of our major needs in this draft. No way I would've believed you before tonight that we'd get the best rated corner in the class by staying put at 11. There are still some very good players to grab tomorrow.

Fwiw, I've seen 3 instant analysis articles so far on twitter and all 3 had the Saints listed as a "winner".

49ers had him 3rd on their board, said if the Bears took Thomas they were taking Foster at 3

Lynch just fleeced his inaugural first round.
quote:

Lynch: If Bears had taken Solomon Thomas, likely the 49ers would have taken Reuben Foster at 3.

quote:

The 49ers used the two picks in the first round to select Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas and Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster. Who was atop their 200-player draft board? Texas A&M edge defender Myles Garrett sat at the top spot followed by Thomas and Foster

quote:

Regarding Foster, who's stock fell following a number of issues since his college career ended, Shanahan said that the team did their homework on the linebacker. "The thing about Reuben is we know he's made some mistakes but – you guys will see when he gets down here – he's a very good person," he said. "We really believe in him. We flew him down here (and) spent a lot of time with him. Probably talked to him on the phone or Facetime I'd say about eight of the last 12 days. So we developed a relationship with him pretty good and he's a very honest person. He's explained to us everything. we're very happy to have him."

quote:

After selecting Thomas with the third pick, Shanahan said that everyone in the draft war room sat there and waited to see when Foster, the next player on their board, would be selected. "From five on, I'm betting when Reuben's going to go," Shanahan said. "I probably lost about 20 bets in a row."

So they did their due diligence, and in the middle of the first round started getting that tingly feeling, and by the back end of the first round were living out the Ron Paul it's happening gif.

But he wasn't on the saints board.

He wasn't on a lot of boards. Hence why he fell to 31. I'm not really sure what you are trying to say. You think it's impossible the Saints weren't with the dozens of other teams not willing to take him?

He has off the field concerns, injury concerns, and essentially a failed drug test at his job interview. For a guy that is supposed to lead the defense. Does that sound like the Saints MO?

All of these armchair GMs on here are stupid. If there is anything Loomis has proven, it is that he is an above average drafter when he trusts his board and takes BPA and below average when he drafts for need. BPA got us Will Smith and Deuce McAllister, who were not positions of need at the time. Drafting for need got us Sedrick Ellis and Jonathan Sullivan.

This draft was an A+. Lattimore will be the best corner we have had in years and we essentially got our RT of the future in the second round.

Because this is one of the few drafts that you can find pro bowl potential defense in the 2nd and 3rd round. Saints believe they can find quality starters with their first 4 picks and want to keep them all
