Just another instance of the "mixed information" you commented on earlier.
Not an RN with an associates.

Sure, if you got out with an associates years ago and you don't live in an area that has nationally ranked nursing schools. Nurse is correct, major hospital organizations in my area want that magnet status...and it is very competitive getting jobs with them...they can be selective with candidates with BSN's and higher training.
Now, if the op wants to work in a rural hospital setting, I am sure he could get a gig (Pikeville, KY).
ETA: you can be an RN, but organizations want the extra education and training.

Nope. You can still graduate with an associates today and sit for the NCLEX. Upon passing, you are a board certified RN in whichever state you took and passed the NCLEX.

I know the OT lies but man, the nurse that say they make 100k and don't work overtime is damn funny. The median income for RNs in Louisiana is under 60k. Most of the ballers on here double that is hilarious. My wife was an RN. She worked nights, weekends, and was on the NICU transport team with OT and I know what money she made. It's ok that you guys don't really make 6 figures. Funniest shite on here in a while

Where is she able to work at as an LPN?? Nursing home? They did away with LPNs at most hospitals years ago. And decent money? Guarantee you she would make way more as an RN.
I think she could work in the hospitals around where we live as a LPN but idk for how much. She currently works home health as an LPN and makes 40-50k straight out of college which is GREAT for our rural area
I figure she probably has a low ceiling on her income but at least she's making good to start

The median salary of 60K in La includes salaries for new grads, and positions that traditionally pay less like, clinics and school nurses. The 60K is also base pay only, and does not include shift differentials or OT.

But there is a caveat to that. New grad or 20+ years experience? Hospital, nursing home, home health, or corporate? Direct patient care, teaching, consulting?
You can make 100k in Louisiana without killing yourself with overtime.

There's your problems. Louisiana is a vaccuum of suck for nurses and nursing. In comparison to the rest of the country. Still a good living, but very limited.
I'm in Houston and am a LAZY sack of turds and pull down $80K without breaking a sweat.
I used to have a job with ZERO OT or holidays or weekends and topped mid 70's.

I want to be "the GE rep". The nurse that travels around showing nurses the same damned bedside GE telemetry monitor that has been used for almost 20 years.
That's a sweet gig, if you like travel. Explaining a device to other nurses that EVERYBODY has used.

If someone just wants to make median income in La as an RN, then more power to them. But if someone wants to make 100k, the opportunity is there. And not have to kill yourself with OT.

You cant make close to 100k as a RN without OT. Travel nursing is much different.

I said without kiiling yourself with OT. Yes you can.

what do you consider killing yourself with OT?

If you want a lot of money you're going to have to leave the state of Louisiana. The opportunities are endless once you get some experience under your belt.

50-60 hours a week, 3 times a month.

to me, that is killing yourself. I dont want to work all my life. 50-60 hours a week is too much but i do agree that you can make 100k with that.

That's what I mean by killing yourself, the 50-60 hours. It is possible without those types of hours.

I think it's a smart move unless your passion is elsewhere. Don't do it if you think it'll be an easy way to a paycheck. I have 1 year left in nursing school and it's pretty intense. My wife just finished her last final for her LSU nursing degree yesterday. She had a job offer in place 3 months ago and will be starting at $29 and hour and $34 on weekends.
