I get what you're saying. But there are those of us on here that do know what we're talking about. But this is the OT.

I'm not a baller.

My dad makes that without extra shifts. Sorry it bothers you so much. It's not the norm, but it is achievable with just an RN.

You won't even say what his role is. You're telling us something that isn't very likely and leaving out important details. "My dad makes over 100k as an RN. I won't tell you his role, but he definitely makes over 100k, trust me." Do you not see how that is hard to believe? This is like the guy in high school who always has a girlfriend that "goes to another school", who no one has ever seen.

I have 16 years experience and worked as hospital supervisor. Now I'm in sales and marketing. You can make 100k as an RN.

So, you're no longer a nurse?

I know RNs who make 200k, they aren't practicing as RNs though.

ETA: anyway, yes it is possible to make 100k a year as an RN, it's just not very common. Especially for someone who is still working as a practicing RN, with no OT, weekends, nights, holidays, etc...

There are a ton of opportunities for those who want to parlay their RN and nursing experience into non direct patient care jobs that pay very well.

I guessing PNP is pediatric nurse practitioner, and she didn't join the Philippine National Police.

fail to see how any nurse in the southern states is bringing in $48 an hour unless they are working every shift they can get.

Texas and Florida it is easily doable. Ben Taub part time "registry " I believe it is called. ER makes I believe $52-55// HR. OT of course is simple to calculate $75?

I make low 40's per HR but as mentioned, I am a slacker. OT is there if I want it. My uncle (old refinery shift worker/retired) always busts my balls about it. "You can make what per/HR.? And you're not there now? They'd have to drag me out. " I try to explain that it's draining. He ain't buying it. He has that refinery operator mentality that was mentioned. He would never leave. We have them here too. They are called Filipinos.

So your ICU nurses are making more per hour than nurse managers for ICU floors at UAB, St Vincent, and Brookwood?

Where you located? Sending my wife's resume over right now.

The only nurses I've seen make in the 40's per hour were contract nurses who did not have paid benefits.

What was a shame was when my wife graduated, passed the state boards and began working in the ER, I made more per hour as a steel mill operator than she did as an RN.

Actually I do. And that is actual data that completely supports it. Are there outliers? Yes. Very few and far between. The 90th percentile in Louisiana doesn't even make 90k. They make 83k. California is the only state where nurses can make 100k on average. This is not an actual debate but fact based on data collected. I love nurses and their profession. I think they are underpaid. I am just trying to be truth to a bunch of OT ballers that are lying to a man trying to make a career decision

You're posting incorrect info. Not once did I claim it was the average. You're wrong.

Ilmnot narrowing down what he does just to keep him anonymity. You can choose to believe it or not. I don't care. The guy is wrong.

You can make nice money, but might have to supplement your regular income with a PRN job on the weekends.

So she is not working the floor. I am talking about your general nursing job that the majority go into.

It's true that the majority go into floor nursing out of school - I went to the ER.
What he is saying is that you don't have to remain in that role for your entire career. I didn't - I'm not in sales, and yes, I make more than 100k. But that didn't happen right out of school and would not have happened in my situation without the required BSN.

Everyone should get experience under their belts to learn and then to decide what area of nursing in which he/she would like to work. If it is to remain in "floor nursing" that's fine, we need them. But, there are a world of opportunities out there for nurses and many of them pay more. I'm not even sure that the overwhelming majority of nurses work in hospitals, but that is what the public believes.

You must be exposed to a very small part of the nursing world. Also, it sounds as though your geographical area has low hourly rates for nurses. That may be the case even at respected hospitals in any area.

The fact is, you do not have to work a ton of overtime - only have experience and be motivated enough to pursue nursing opportunities that require getting out of your comfort zone and learning a new role.

Topwater,
You gotta want to hustle and by that I mean work a little more. Most ICU nurses work 3 12s and that's ft hours. Gives you 4 days off a week. Instead of only working 3 shifts work another. That will give you 8 hours of 1.5x. Do that once a week and You got 32 hours of ot a month. shite adds up quick making high 30s low 40s per hour (their are ft nurses at tulane making in the 40s). That's not even counting evenings, nights, or weekends diffs.

However most nurses don't want to hustle. They like working 3 days a week. They're happy making 60k. Their husbands are the bread winners.

I hustled and still hustle as a crna making serious money.

Laugh away
