Not this American, I want the whole thing scrapped tee-totally... Government should only regulate health care standards, not be involved in insurance coverage. Go back to pre-ACA (Obamacare) or whatever name it goes by. Let people be responsible for their lifestyles and health care choices. I don't want to pay for someone else lying around smoking whatever, drinking whatever or shooting up whatever, all the while watching 65" TV's and driving that PONTIAC with 22"rims and tires. Those choices are not mine, therefore my taxes should not assist or enable them in any way.

Oh please. What a bunch of oversimplifications and stereotypes.

How about the parents who are told after their son is born that he has Downs Syndrome and will need medical care for all his life?

How about the person who has epilepsy, but still wants to work hard and be productive, if he only get a little help to pay for his meds.

How about the single mother raising a kid who gets a call, her son has been arrested and is in the hospital. She goes down thinking he was on drugs, turns out he is schizophrenic (a disease that very often hits in the teen and early twenty years) and will need expensive treatments. She is a waitress.

How about the person with an incurable auto-immune disorder that can be treated but not cured. Arthritis. Psoriasis. Eczema.

How about two good parents, mom and dad, whose third son isn't doing good in school despite their efforts. The school nurse does tests and finds their son has autism/Apsgers syndrome and while he will not need drugs, if the parents die he will have to go to a group home because he cannot take care of himself in a normal fashion.

Pray none of these scenario's happen to you or your children.

It aint just lazy that get sick you know.

his point was more of resource allocation, ie, spending money they could spend on health insurance on luxury or entertainment goods

i don't see how that doesn't apply to each example you posted. i mean the whole point of insurance is to pay to mitigate future risk of the cost of bad shite (like the examples you posted) happening to you. the question is what did the people in your examples spend their money on while skating on spending on health insurance?

now if you're trying to make an indirect argument about PECs or lifetime caps, make that statement directly. these issues can be discussed and policies can be enacted to combat these issues that don't require a complete overhaul of the system (especially the force-subsidy components)

Euro,,, your thinking is just that European where peoples groups just depend on Government handouts and that is why they are broke today. WE are certainly with all of the assistance handed out getting there quickly.

State facilities are available as they have been in the past to assist in these cases, plus parents can avail themselves to support groups and purchase policies for additional assistance.

I know several people, an uncle for one, that has lead a very productive life with epilepsy and has his own insurance policy with no government assistance. Also a dear friend in the same situation.

Again, there are state agencies that will assist in these situations. NOT the Federal Government....

My mom has Psoriasis and has dealt with it for many many years. Again without Federal or State assistance, and she not well off by any stretch of the imagination. But she is one of the Americans that feels that we should stand on our own two feet as much as possible and not place her burden on others to the extent possible.

There is other extended family in most of the cases that step up out of love and concern for their blood. If not family someone will and I believe that with all of my heart. Our society here in America is not heartless as you Euro's think that it is.

I have a grand daughter that struggles immensely with Dyslexia, but as I said above should my daughter and her husband be taken away tragically, family from both sides will step up and ensure her well being.

This I do know, but if they aren't lazy they will not be looking for a handout unless absolutely necessary, and that is when Stateagencies step in providing that needed assistance, again, it is NOT the Federal Governments job....

Thanks for your response.....

If only there had been a way to deal with such situations before the ACA. Oh, wait. That's right. There was.
