Blue Apron...only issue is we had to dirty a ton of dishes to make the meal

So the wife(no pics) ordered us some Blue Apron. We made the first one last night and it was pretty good. My only issue is we had to dirty a shite ton of dishes to make the meal. I normally cook dinner with minimal mess. I wonder if this holds true for any of the other food delivery services, Hello Fresh, etc. anyone have experience with the others?

My daughter uses Purple Carrot - it's a vegan service. I haven't heard any complaints about messes, but what do I know?

Here's the thing about BA: the dishes are extremely elaborate so you dirty a lot of dishes, and they use a lot of weird ingredients you would never buy, so you really can't recreate most recipes.
The upside is you learn a lot, and the dishes come out absolutely delicious, much more so than most services.
Plated, for instance, the dishes are much simpler. It's pretty basic stuff which is both good and bad.

Agreed, have you tried the others? Are they as elaborate?

HelloFresh is the same way. Good product, but not a way to do an easy quick meal

Blue apron is the worst in this department. Hello fresh is better, but not by much.

Blue Apron shortcuts:
1) Go ahead and buy a giant tub of minced garlic, you'll be happier in the long run. Save the heads for some roasted garlic.
2) Own a zester and a couple of really good knives for vegetable prep.
3) Read ahead, if step 4 requires you to throw x,y, and z into a pot you probably don't have to be too anal segregating those in the cutting phase

We did it for a couple of months and it was pretty much this way (we did 3/week)... a lot of dishes and I had so much extra garlic it was ridiculous.. It was cool, because we cooked a lot of things we never would have on our own... but, sometimes we didn't feel like prep/cooking or had other plans and then they'd start to back up...
on permanent hold for now...

We do them whenever we get half off coupons in the mail. Use them then cancel immediately. Trust me they send them all the time.

I use Hello Fresh. It uses the same amount of dishes that cooking any other meal would

I use Green Chef and don't find I dirty any more dishes etc as when I normally cook.
I did just cancel it as we have a farm box coming weekly and I grill or smoke daily now that spring/summer is here
