I've worked in the woods for over 40 years and hunted since I was 10. I believe the rattlesnake is the most docile snake of all that exist in La.
I'd rather encounter any number of rattlers than a pissed off cottonmouth or copperhead.

Several things about that scenario look scripted to me.
The tree and woods look more like a backyard than a turkey hunt. And, it doesn't say why he laid his gun down, got up, and came back to where he was sitting. That doesn't add up. And, the snake never sticks its tongue out to smell him in the video. It never moves. Looks like a mounted snake and a setup scene to me.

I thought the same but at the :56 mark, look thru the trigger guard, the snake does move slightly. Still wouldnt want to be in that situation

Might have had to take a dump away from his tree.
As to surroundings, I can show you tons if places that look exactly like that around here. Here being very near the Tensas River NWR.
I do question the tongue not flickering, tho.

There's another video from him in the comments section where he tries to get it to leave by hitting it with a stick. It's definitely moving and rattling in that one.

I believe the guy sat next to a snake and it didn't move. I don't know about the story of getting up and coming back, but I believe you can set a gun next to one time that and it not move. I've came across a good many in my years of working and hunting in the woods, and I'd rather walk through one acre infested with 200 timber rattlesnakes than 10 acres with the same amount of wasp nests.

I have been around quite a few timber rattlers and only once was one very aggressive.
It was in December and sunning in the open woods (eyes cloudy about to shed). I saw it from 30 feet away. Once I got about 15 feet from it, it lunged and struck in my direction. I don't think it could see me, just heard me and felt vulnerable.

story of getting up and coming back,
He jumped the frick up probably, you know, when he saw a 5' rattler...then took out his phone and walked back up to it.
What's the confusion?

Timber rattlers are generally pretty reluctant to bite. They'd much rather just sit still and hope you don't see them. They start rattling and biting when you step on them, or some dumbass starts poking them with a stick. I've walked all around them snapping photos and they usually just sit still if they're coiled up and don't feel exposed.
