i just looked up the amazon audio book of IT, and it's 45 hours long at $32.
I wouldn't worry about it. Reading about a child gang-bang is horrific enough, I can't imagine listening to that scene...I don't care how many damn dream-birds you throw in there.

***SPOILERS***
First, I'm rereading the book for the first time in 30 years. I'm just getting into it, and don't remember many details, just the way it makes me feel.
As far as Stanley and Patricia's marriage and the detail that King gives to it and her personal background, I see it as a metaphor for Derry. It looks really nice and happy on the outside, but on the inside there's just something there that's nasty and won't go away

Good point. Upvote lol.

I bought it and have been listening to it for about 20 minutes a day or so--mainly on my drive to work. I don't think I could read the book again, so I choose to have it read to me.
I bought the book the day it came out in 1986 and had read it all within a week or two (that's fast for me). Haven't read it since. I don't remember much about it so far. I think it's the droning on with exposition that everyone is talking about. All the kids have just started to realize they are all seeing Pennywise in all his various forms, so it's starting to get going.
After all these years, I'm still in love with Beverly Marsh. I don't care if she's poor white trash and a ho. Frannie from "The Stand" can take a flying leap. Annette O'Toole was perfect casting for the mini-series.
As far as King books go here's my top three:
1.) It
2.) 11/22/63
3.) The Stand

The Stand coming in a close second.
The Stand extended version is my third favorite.
Salem's Lot is my second.
I absolutely love the Gunslinger series, but it's a series not one book

Since we're spilling over, the ultimate King blue balls experience was reading the original The Green Mile as a serial novel. Six separate parts, released monthly as I recall. I'm finished with each release in two days, waiting 28 for the next one. No internet.

IT was my first King book, but Salem's Lot is my favorite.

Just finished reading IT about ten minutes ago for the first time. I hate that it took me this long to get around to picking it up.
While it might seem long winded on descriptions at times, it was a fantastic read. By about 30% in, I was absolutely hooked.
Going to read The Stand next, I think.
What are some of his other "must reads?"

Read many king novels much I don't remember..my never forgotten would include the eye of the Dragon and the long walk. Gunslinger also was good but never finished it

Salem's Lot was the first King book I ever read. I'd seen the movie when I was little and was terrified of it but wasn't ready for what King put in my head with that thing. If something had scratched on my window when I was reading that part late at night I would have pissed crapped and cried all at once.

The Talisman is a great read also

SK not being a good writer, just a good story teller. Guess those millions & millions of books he wrote & sold were just good stories, right? The Stand, book & movie, are his best for me. To each your own taste but millions apparently disagree with his critics here.

King is always doing this. Anything he writes thats over 700 pages is pretty much in the same boat. I just got the hang of reading him and I skim those pages and paragraphs. Start picking up dialogue again? Slow down and read.
