Not sure if serious.

It is a generation told that if they question the global warming thesis in class, they will fail. If they question certain unclear/unproven aspects of evolution in class, they will fail. If they eschew political correctness in favor of actual correctness, they will fail.

It is not the stuff of objectivity. It is the stuff of ideology. It is the stuff of their training, their education, their learned means of thought.

Is there any data to back this up, especially compared to previous generations at similar age points?

I think we have a tendency to evaluate the views of generations at a specific point in time, and primarily--even solely--attribute the results to generational differences and fail to recognize developmental (age) and social (technology, economics, etc.) variables.

I mean I'm technically a millenial (31), but my views have changed drastically since going through graduate school, getting married, have a child, entering the workforce, etc. as well as just plain changes with aging.

So yeah, we look at a bunch of 18-22 year olds, and we'll see a bunch of immature and irrational views, and on top of that, they have the ability to broadcast those views instantaneously to anyone in the digital world like never before.

10 to 15 years from now, I suspect many of them will look a lot like a typical adult like any other generation.

You must be one (millenial).

Anyone who admires Maxine Waters is either stupid or crooked.

Well I'm in the older end of the generation, but I've never had this forced upon me, likely not anymore than the those years older.

I think we see these news stories, and assume ubiquity, but then we fail to realize that the fact that they are newsworthy may imply that they are somewhat exteme and atypical, at least moreso than it seems.

Everyone?

Then again, I've seen it for myself many times.

In light of the silly question though, obviously "fail" is hyperbole. Graded harshly would be the correct term.

Yet, Maxine has been in Congress since 1991, years before many millenials were even conceived, let alone a full decade before any could even vote.

Who is everyone? Your fellow posters on tigerdroppings? In the last 16 years of school I haven't had any of the things you mentioned pushed on me with threat of any kind of penalty.

Could I ask how old you are? Genuinely curious.

My generation isn't the most useless ever, but there is a hefty portion consisting of selfish, childish, lazy, ignorant brats.

Dude, I think we know who keeps electing her. That's a totally different dynamic unto itself.

Any significant portion of any generation who truly believe that retard is a hero are FUBAR'd.

So you would contend your history books, content, emphasis and themes are unchanged vs "those years older"? You would contend books highlighting politically influenced science such as anthropogenic global warming are unchanged vs "those years older"? You would contend that learning/teaching methods are unchanged vs "those years older"?

If those are your contentions, I can tell you point blank you are wrong.

Lulz. "Millennial" covers too much ground. Need to cutoff those born after 1982 at a certain point & come up with a new name for them.

It's a problem when people think they are smart. Like another poster said "Socrates" (I know nothing) begets wisdom

Are millenials the dumbest generation ever? I've met some really dumb millenials, but I've also met some great ones. I've also met some dumb baby boomers as well. My generation "the silent generation" has our share of misguided folk.

I was there in the "free love" generation of the sixties. Sexual promiscuity was rampant. Even lost at least one high school friend to some mysterious disease call HIV. Lost one high school classmate in a Viet Cong Ambush. Culutural norms were changing. But you know what I see signs the pendulum is swinging the other way. Many millenials are embracing the "straight life", as they accept the traditional family model. They want the same thing every generation wants.....happiness. Hey happiness is found in service and giving of yourself to someone else. Relationship involves risk. I say take the risk. I did and my bride and I are in our 49th year on our way to forever. Was it easy? Heck no. I had to scrub myself many times. Two magic words, "I'm sorry"! Say it often and throw in roses.....lots of roses. Important! DO NOT FORGET YOUR ANNIVERSARY.

But you know what I see in my bride now is the whole person. Hard to explain. The day I married her I saw her young and beautiful. Today I still see her young and beautiful. But we've paid a lot of bills, struggled to raise kids in a world gone mad, even started our lives over in a different town many times. Some of you millenials will not like what I have to say next. WE WENT TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY AND WE PRAYED A LOT. We were not perfect. Flawed? Absolutely. But I loved my bride then, and I love her now. Choose carefully. Plus she is pure magic with an infant granddaughter. I'm still in awe of her when she holds our baby granddaughter. She's just about the prettiest creation I've ever seen. You millenials will experience that too, if you just hang in there. Don't get sucked into the sex part, look at the persons heart. Does this person have a good heart? That's all I've got to say.

Love is a decision.

Well seeing how baby boomers are grooming us to take over society and completely passing up Gen X, I'd say no.
