They seized the GM plant.

Obozo said we needed to bail them out because they were a necessary component of the US economy.

Economic warfare.

I have been to Venezuela many times. Been personally enriched by the corruption of Chavez. (Only because he hired my company to rebuild part of a chemical plant that ended up being a complete boondoggle to buy the votes of poor people.)

Anybody who didn't see this coming (or at least a strong possibility) deserves to lose their plant (and their jobs, AFAIAC). Ask the oil companies that are were nationalized into PdVSA a long time ago.

It's not like Chavez and his legacy have just snuck up on us.

My employer had some facilities nationalized by Venesula during Chavez' regime. We did nothing then, we'll do nothing now. US government isn't in the business of telling foreign governments what they can and can't do with private business in their own country.

Business takes a risk by investing in unstable countries.

Oh the excitement in 1998 when they killed their country!

Probably not an act of war against the US, but that doesn't make it any less troubling.

Screw GM for doing business there? I mean sure they assumed a risk, so that's on them--although this does seem beyond the typical risk.

However, your statement makes it seem that even doing business there is something inherently bad. If that's what you're implying, I don't understand that at all.

I'm not implying anything. I'm simply stating what happened. GM decided for what ever reason that they would rather do business in a socialists country than in their own and now they will suffer the consequences. Like I said, screw them!
