The kid was a freshman playing for a coach who had no idea what he was doing. He had an amazing season, you shouldn't expect a freshman to take over every single game and win it for you. He also obviously had no jump shot, so why would he take game ending shots? This would be like us expecting Shaq to take game ending jump shots. Would you rather a guy who cant shoot, shoot it, or a shooter?

The "freshman" excuse doesn't work in basketball. True freshmen, especially no. 1 NBA picks, can take over games and lead their teams. Happens all the time.

And he can't shoot a jumper, so I wouldn't expect him to launch an 18-footer for the win, but his game is getting to the rim, so GET TO THE RIM, and either finish or draw a foul. He was a decent free throw shooter, so get to the line.

But don't shy away from big moments.

Averaging 19.2 ppg (on 56% shooting), 11.8 rpg, 4.8 apg and 2.0 spg in a 40 minute game is pretty much doing that.........

So as a 18/19 year old first year in college you expect him to take over and win every game? Do you even watch sports? How often do true freshmen in college basketball take over and win every close game for their team? The guy as a TRUE FRESHMAN goes 28/17 in a game and you're complaining that he didn't "take over". OR he didn't take a final shot in a game he went 21/20 in (his 4th EVER collegiate game)? That's how ridiculous you sound.

And how often do you see game ending shots being around the rim? Hardly ever because the refs swallow their whistles, so teams can usually just hack away at anyone trying to get to the rim with little time remaining. This is why you see so many jump shots in close games as a final shot...it's not worth relying on the refs to blow the whistle to give you a chance. Even then, he wasn't a good free throw shooter (67% isn't good), so why would you want a guy like that to go to the line and win it for you? So basically because he had great games, you expect in crunch time a guy who cant shoot and is a 67% FT shooter to take the last shot or get to the FT line and win it for you (not to mention is a true freshman)? That's ridiculous.
