What about the Moo State and Tulane games?
That still kills me. John Bond had the game of his season against LSU every year when he was there. LSU had absolutely no answer for his option play. Then....then a few weeks later Mike McKay has the game of a lifetime in beating LSU.....I was at that game and Tulane was so fired up that night it was unbelievable....on paper it should not have been close.

The Tigers got behind 34-0 to a mediocre at best Tulane team.
To be fair to Tulane that year they were the ranked team and had a very good quarterback in Roch Hontas.
I think Tulane ended up 10-1 at year and played Penn State in the Liberty Bowl

Thanks for sharing this. I was in the Air Force, stationed at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Alabama at the time. I got tickets for the game and drove up to B'ham from Montgomery. If I remember correctly, I sat in the north endzone just behind the goal posts. First time I saw LSU beat the Gumps since the 1970 season. It was glorious and the thing I remember about that day was that everytime Walter Lewis turned around, he had a purple facemask in his face.

Glad to know you could get new car financing at 10.29% and a hamburger for $00.29 at McDonald's. LOL

watched that game on closed circuit t.v. with about 2000 or so other Tiger fans at the PMAC on a big screen t.v.
My dad and I were there also. Great memories of that game.

My freshman year. Some of my fraternity caravaned to Tuscaloosa Thursday and drove in to Birmingham early Saturday morning. It was glorious.
FIVE yards total offense and ZERO first downs for Bama in 1st half. I remember TGBFTL and GG danced and played a half hour after the game was over.
If I remember right, Eric Martin caught a long TD pass at the beginning of the game against MSU.
The Tulane game was one week after the 55-21 orange game destruction of FSU.
Two things I remember at that game:
-LSU blocked a Tulane punt early in the game and recovered, but it was called back.
-Garry James made literally one of the best runs ever on a long reverse-the-field-twice run, but it was also called back.
Crazy. 8-3-1 LSU could have easily been 12-0.

Roch Hontzas played on their 1979 team that beat us ,24-13 in McClendon's last game. Tulane was very good and did go 9-2 and played in the Liberty Bowl.
As an aside, Tulane has played in three Liberty Bowls and all three times their head coach then went on to greener--no pun--pastures. Jim Pittman left for TCU after the 1970 game,Larry Smith went to Arizona after the 1979 game and Tommy Bowden went to Clemson after the 1998 game.

That was not Charlie's last game. They played in the tangerine bowl that year and beat Wake Forest 34-10.....

Pigs flew. I had the T-shirt but our house burned down. I'll have to get another one this year.

I was there. Was living in Atlanta and had an office in B'ham and went with some coworkers. One of my favorite games ever.

He left before the bowl. Scelfo coached the Liberty Bowl.

That was my first road game as an LSU student. We were on the very top row of the upper deck in Legion Field. One of the best road trip victory celebrations ever. LSU fans were totally delirious and partied at the stadium for hours.

Tulane was only 6-5 in 1981 and their QB was McKay. The LSU game that year was rated a toss-up
