Just browsing on google flights and saw MSY-Frankfurt on Condor for $660. After investigating further on Condor's website, it looks like roundtrip from Nola to Frankfurt is actually $550 total for their nonstop flight. This is for Sunday and Wednesday departures in May, it jumps to around $780 in June/July, then back to $550 for August and September. Business class is as low as $1200 roundtrip for May/early June/some dates in July, that is quite a steal to get to/from europe. If you are going to look on condor's site, just type in MSY-FRA, when the search pops up click on lowest fare finder and you can browse by month for the cheapest price.
You can also earn miles for Alaska Airlines by flying on Condor Alaska site. Figured I would share with the class if anyone is interested in a quick trip to Germany

Those are great prices. It is at least double that for Star Alliance flights.

At those prices, i think i could swing something with my family of 4. Any recommendations on things to do in and around Frankfurt? We love outdoor activities.

Frankfurt has some really good Apfelwein restaurants, but not much to see besides that.
That being said, you rent a car and be in Nuremberg in 2.5 hours or Heidelberg in an hour.
If you like history, the Gutenberg museum in Mainz is pretty interesting and that is right outside of Frankfurt.
Go for it and figure out where to go from there.
