High school kid throwing 9 innings. Good job looking out for the kid coach. High School coaches in Louisiana are idiots.

What was his pitch count?

ETA: I see the article is showing 125. That's unfortunate. He is a bigger bodied kid though, so maybe it doesn't affect him as much.

You don't like to see that though. Hopefully it's an isolated incident.

He's pretty highly thought of by Prep Baseball Report, which seems to give more of a college prospect ranking (IMO) than a pro draft ranking.

It's just tough to say right now since all the big events for guys his age won't happen until this summer.

125 pitches for a HS kid. the coach should be ashamed.

Their other stud threw 100 pitches against WM early in the year. They got the W though.

Most states thats not allowed. Louisiana is the only state I believe that still doesn't have a pitch limit. Next year they will implement a 125 pitch limit, which is still more than any other state in the country.

From what I've heard, Louisiana is slowly getting with the times. I believe they did implement a rule this year regarding rest days. Don't really know the ins and outs of the rule, but a coach told me something about mandatory rest between outings based off of the number of pitches thrown.

Pitch count and rest won't go into effect until 2018. Even then, the count and rest schedule is much higher than practically every state on that list. Pitiful.....

striking out 17, you're going to throw a good amount of pitches. I wasnt at the game so i cant comment, but not all 125 pitch counts are the same

Oh, I know. And it still only averages out to about 14 pitches per inning, which is pretty efficient.

He's also not a huge velocity guy. I mean for HS he is, but he's a 90-91 guy. And he may not throw with max effort every time.

How about you explain your down vote and try to defend your position coach?

I didn't downvote you, but there are a ton of variables that need to be considered before you criticize a coach, not the least of which is rest between starts. I'd find that out before hammering a coach.

I know all about the variables and I'll hammer the coach because 125 pitches is indefensible in that situation.

What's your scenario where that is okay with this kid? I'll poke holes in anything you present and hammer you too.

Barbe is notorious for this. So much so at one point Tulane flat out stated they'd stop recruiting any pitcher from Barbe because they've been ruined by the time they get to college.
