re: What professional franchise has the worst 5 year outlook from today?

The Colorado Avalanche are one of the worst teams in the history of the NHL this season. They have 4 top 3 draft picks on their roster: Mckinnon, Duchene, Landeskog and E Johnson and they are still god awful.
They are also owned by possibly the worst owner in professional sports: Stan Kroenke.
This summers draft is supposed to be one of the 2 or 3 weakest in the last 10-15 years.
All those things combined and they have to be in the top 3 for worst 5 year outlook.

Actually the Angels in this upcoming offseason will
be buyers on the FA market because they will have over 30 million coming off their books.

Closer to 60 mil off the books. 26 mil from Josh Hamilton, around 10 mil from Ricky Nolasco. Plus Cameron Maybin, Yunel Escobar, Danny Espinosa, Ben Revere, Andrew Bailey, and a option on Huston Street.
They could reshape the roster quickly. They're going to go after free agents.

I think the angels are going to surprise people this year
The only surprise depends on how bad the Rangers end up becoming.
Houston and Seattle will compete for the title. So the best the Angels can hope for is 3rd. And I don't see a WC coming out of the West.
Do the Rangers have enough to be mediocre (if Darvish and Hamels are the solution, the problem can't be solved) or are the effects of bad signings (Choo, Prince, Elvis--and now doubling down on Odor?) catching up.

5 years probably Saints but their 10 year path is better because they'll probably be in San Antonio by then which will help.

Seattle?
Cruz and Cano are regressing
Too many positions at replacement level or below

Agreed and that's why I said them. They need a superb draft class this year.

We talking about cellar dweller abyss shite aren't we? Cause there are a lot of bad teams.
I'd say it has to be the Saints also as I don't see Brees playing with the Saints after this year.
When he leaves. Oh... my....lawd... it will be bad as it has ever been. Cellar dweller bad. Payton will be gone too... we are talking bad. real bad. Browns type bad.
I am preparing myself for that eventuality.

no.
you don't have to be a cellar dwelling team to have no hope in the immediate future

On its surface unless a replacement comes along for Brees that division has some pretty good talent at QB and no really bad teams in the future. I don't think the Saints are that hopeless but they've got a hard path in front of them.

We could rehash all the reasons why the Saints will be cellar dweller bad in 5 years, but let's don't.
What we do know is that Brees won't be around after at the most 3 years. They had so much faith in the drafted backup Grayson that they released him and then signed him after no one wanted him.
I'm doing what I said we didn't need to do.
Yea, they will be really bad. Really, really bad.

What's the NBA equivalent of the Seahawks going 5-11 and then winning the super bowl 4 years later?
I would say this is an outlier, so my Lebron to Cleveland example, refereed to by someone as an outlier, is your answer.

Has to be the Nets or Kings. Basketball takes the longest to turn around.
And how does turning a team around equate to winning a championship. For most people turning a team around is taking a losing team and making it a winning team or a playoff team.

The most hopeless franchise in sports is the San Diego Padres.
It's not even remotely close. A completely hopeless team in a hopeless sports town.
Their GM is AJ Preller for the love of God.

Saints. Once Brees is gone you can flush it down.
Ownership is dying and FO is pathetic.
True but there are teams already terrible and with no hope. Saints at least have brees a little longer.

Did anyone say the OAKLAND Raiders?
I mean, am I right, or am I right?

Colts and Jets are two others off the top of my head that went from top 5 in the draft to conference championship within a few years.
You can't seriously be arguing that it's easier to go from a doormat to into the playoffs in the NBA. That happens almost every year in the NFL.
