The gap between Bron and bird is larger than the gap between Bron and MJ. To argue is futile and ignorant

Birds highest win share in a season is 15.8

LeBron has 5 seasons higher than a 15.8, with his highest being 20.3

Birds highest VORP is 8.7

LeBron has 6 seasons higher than a 8.7, with his highest being 11.6

Birds highest PER is 27.8.

LeBron has 7 seasons higher than a 27.8, whith his highest being 31.7

LeBron has averaged more points, assists, FG% PER, VORP, WS than Bird over a career.

So you're of the opinion that Thomas is on the same tier as arguably 3 top 5 players? Show your work please.

I think it's easy to malign Bird now...maybe its PC. And worse the fan comments on Bird are so stereotypical one-dimensional - they talk about 3-point or spot up shooting.

Bird wasn't a fricking spot-up shooter, he created his own shot. He drove to the basket, he out rebounded Rodman...he often had more assists than Magic.

Where are you even seeing this? I feel like most people rightfully see Bird as a guy in the back end of the top ten. Being ranked below dudes like LeBron or Shaq is hardly an insult.

I forget who said the quote but it goes something like "Jordan is the best player to ever play basketball in the air, Bird is the best person to play the game on the ground."

Very hard to understand just how good Bird was if you never watched him play in his prime. He had a court vision that was just unbelievable to watch and elevated whoever he was on the court with.

Bird only had a decline because of his back. Bird had a bad back because he never took a night off and played 110% on every play. He would dive for loose balls late in games that were already decided. Don't know if I've ever seen a person with as much passion for the game as he had.

Looking at how starters are rested now and how players ease up at times. No doubt Bird would have lasted longer had he done that. But that wasn't Bird and he would consider it insulting to not give everything every time on the court.

If you can ever find the 60 point game vs Atlanta in New Orleans I highly advise watching it. Stuff of Legends. Same if you can find complete games from the 84 finals against the Lakers.

A few youtube highlight videos:

60 point game at UNO vs Atlanta

1985 Game 4 4th Period vs LA

1984 Game 4 - 98deg heat in the garden

I hate this Youtube crap...doesn't mean shite. Doesn't prove anytyhing.

You have to sit there and watch a game in that time to see horribleness or see greatness.
You can watch entire games. Speaking of horribleness, that's a good way to describe 80s defense.

Nonexistent would be even better.

Wilt averaged 28 points and 28 rebounds against Russell

Yea, Pretty sure Wilt would have his way with Russell but Russell would win because he had 37 HOFers on his team, so the narrative all these years later turned into Russell owned Wilt, which from everything I can tell, wasn't remotely the case.

There is no argument for Kobe in the top 5, not close.

Top 20.

Here is a complete NBA finals game 7 from 1984 between the Celtics and Lakers. So the energy should be ramped up at an all time high.

Look at how slow it is. And look at the standing around on defense. LOL when people say this was a better product/tougher product.

Seriously, watch it and tell me the quickness and defense is there.

Bird was an insanely great player at his peak. And one of his weapons was exactly what people are using now to downgrade him: he looked like Woody Harrelson in White Men Can't Jump. People underestimated him at first because he was a goofy white boy who couldn't jump. And then he just destroyed them because he was the most ferocious player in the league not named Michael Jordan, who I'm pretty sure is a bona fide sociopath.

The knock on Bird is longevity. He went into a pretty steep decline after turning 31 and his back gave out. Part of that was just how he played. Bird gave 100% effort all the time, and he logged a ton of minutes. That takes its toll, and he was an old man before his time. But man, what a peak. And he was one of the last guys fueled almost entirely by hate. He HATED the other team, and he played like it.

Bird averaged 38.4 MPG. The pussy LeBron averages 38.9

Birds highest average in a season was 40.6. The pussy LeBron james was 42.4.

Shaq at his peak was the most dominant ever, but Bird had much more game. That's why Shaq is top 10, Bird is top 5

Boy, are you defensive. I'm not talking about LeBron, I'm talking entirely about Bird. LeBron carries his teams on his back as well.

But if you wanna make the comparison: LeBron averaged over 40 MPG in his first years in the league when he was a kid. His last season averaging 40+ minutes came when he was 23, and he's only topped 38 MPG twice since then. Bird averaged 40+ minutes when he was 30. He averaged over 38 minutes 8 times after turning 23.

But I'm of the opinion they are both great players.

Same here. Both are great players and I find myself lucky to see both of them in their prime.

This is just a heartstring pull.

Same as saying he was a warrior, killer instinct, the it factor.

Bird was a great player. Top 10 guaranteed player of all time. No need to add intangible superlatives to describe him.
