Regardless, Yedlin is still way better at RB than Zusi is.

Yall rate Yedlin a lot higher than i do. I don't consider him very talented at all. But yeah Zusi is garbage.

Is a fast, natural fullback better than a slow midfielder playing at fullback?

And, as has been pointed out numerous times, Yedlin's probably going to be in the team of the Championship.

His performance as a 20 year old in the World Cup was good enough for Tottenham to buy him. First rookie in like a decade to make MLS team of the season. Helped Sunderland stay up last year and has been pivotal in Newcastles inevitable promotion. One of the fastest players in the world. What exactly is it that you don't like?

Outside of his speed, everything. He's not gifted at soccer. He's just fast. Which admittedly can overcome his deficiencies at times but most of the time he just wastes his runs with bad touches, passes, crosses.

He's not very instinctual on defense either.

It reminds me of people being enamored with Zardes and i just remember thinking most of the time he has a brick of a foot and cant control a soccer ball to save his life.

Well Zardes is a forward, it's pretty important for him to have a deft touch because his job is to score goals. Yedlin's job is defending and sending balls into the box, which I'd say he's doing a pretty good job at with an assist every hour, which is on par with the midfielders on his team.

And Newcastle has given up the fewest goals in the league featuring him prominently, so even if he isn't instinctive it would appear that his speed is making up for it. Like I said, pace is a great equalizer and the reason he's playing in the U.K. at his age. I think you're also underestimating just how fast Yedlin is. He's up there with the Bellerin's, Walkers, and Valencias if not faster. Zardes is fast but not holy shite fast

I understand the difference and why it's more important for someone in Zardes position on the field. But they still both have zero touch and that was the main point.

I didnt compare his speed to Zardes. I know he's faster than Zardes.

I understand you like Yedlin, i just find him very overrated on this board.

I mean it's not just me

He's probably the best right back in the championship as a 23 year old. I think if anything he is underrated around here because some people haven't seen him much since 2015 international duty. He's a completely different player now

He's not conceding goals on defense. He's contributing goals on offense. He's fast as lightning and a physical player. He'll probably end up being the best right back we've ever produced. I just don't know what's not to like. He's been outstanding at doing his job and then some this season

You think Yedlin will end up better than Cherundolo?

They are about equal at this point in their careers.

Actually, Yedlin has accomplished a lot more at 23 than Cherundolo had.

Dolo had a decade of consistency. It would be amazing if we got that type of consistency from Yedlin.

I agree. He hasn't shown it yet. But Yedlin already has 43 USMNT games under his belt.

On the whole argument about the depth of the talent pool, I thought this tweet was interesting...

quote:

@BrianSciaretta: an injured/unavailable usmnt XI (4-1-3-2) Guzan; Yedlin, Cameron, Orozco, Lichaj; Johnson, Lletget, Zardes; Wood, Morris

That's how things roll in the alternate twitter universe.

I realized after I posted he inadvertently put Cameron in twice. Why don't I just throw Bacon in there and make it a 4-3-3. Hopefully the overall point of interest stands.
