Fired after 13 seasons.
Leading candidates for the job are current Hornets assistant Patrick Ewing and Harvard coach Tommy Amaker.

About time. I would be interested to see what Ewing can do. He's an excellent assistant with big men and I think they would clean up recruiting wise with big men

This. He's been rumored to be a candidate for a number of jobs in the league, but people were worried about his lack of experience running the ship. It's about time he got his shot. G'Town could be a great start.

And Ewing would still link them to their glory days so it wouldn't be a full scale revolt some fear will happen from firing JT III.

God I'd hate to be the guy who broke the news to big JT

The sell is pretty good to any elite big man recruit. His legacy as a player, plus the track record he has with numerous big guys in the NBA, knowing what it takes to succeed at the next level. Legacy type hires are often dumb but this one makes a lot of sense

Is Georgetown following the USC model of hiring?
Posted on 3/23/17 at 3:11 pm to REG861
Yeah, I'd think that hiring Ewing would pacify JT somewhat

I wanna see Ewing with a towel on his shoulder patrolling the sidelines

As both a USC and GU alum, I can tell you that the athletic departments are extremely similar in terms of their insularity and incompetence.

Ewing said he would hear them out but he wants an NBA job.

Lolololololololol
They can't do any better than this, or is Big John Thompson still influencing the program?

when I heard this today, I assumed he had already been fired years ago

He would need a towel, Ewing is a legendary sweat man

So non-GTown guys are automatically out?
What's the fall back plan after Ewing?

Of all the things Ewing did in his career, I'll always remember him most for his quote during the 1998 NBA lockout...
quote:
Patrick Ewing as President of the Player's Association during contract negotiations, "Sure NBA players make a lot of money, but we spend a lot too."

ETA Go ahead and downvote, motherfrickers. It's the truth.

After Craig Escherick, that probably is policy

If Shaka Smart thinks he might get fired next year, I could see him being an option. I want Archie Miller.
Also, Georgetown is finally opening a new athletic center this year. Before, they were in a complete dump of a gym or would workout at the student rec center. It was a joke.
