Clearly he's never met a smoker.

They did what?? Wow that has to suck. They did that with esplanade in new orleans. Made it one lane so now you're caught behind a dipshit tourist going 10 mph the whole way

How about enforce the laws on the books? That would take care of the problem.
I agree.
How many sidewalks could I drive my car down before I lost my license?
How many times could I ride the wrong way on a one way, because "I feel safer" before I got thrown in jail?
It is a joke that cyclist even defend this behavior as "bad apples"

I think the ones with shotty manners outnumber the good ones.
They're worse on trails.
I ride for exercise, mainly because it's fun and I hate running, and I do very little riding on roads. That said, I can be honest unlike most of the people who are going to be salty in this thread... Virtually ZERO cyclists obey all the traffic laws.

I do love when y'all yell that bikes shouldn't be in the road, but then also get pissed off when cities build bike lanes to get them off the road.

You must live in a rural area.

Blame the cops for not enforcing the laws

I do, and it has nothing to do with their manners.
Your regular, standard person on a bike isn't training for the Tour so they can only get up to a certain speed, which is typically less than the speed limit and far less than the speed your average vehicle is traveling. I'm not even talking about highways and large roads, I'm taking even just smaller surface streets, it's ludicrous that you can have a line of cars 15 deep riding behind someone just becuase they're on a bike. It's unsafe.

It's mind numbing watching them disregard the rules then bitch out pedestrians who are doing what pedestrians do.

Almost hit a cute blonde who blew through a stop sign at St.Joe and Magazine about two months ago. She laid her bike down and I got out my truck to see if she was ok. I got a " you dumb fricking a-hole" response, then I pointed to the stop sign. She told me to frick off
Lovely group.
Lovely group.

You're right.
frick these cops for not chasing down cyclist on one way roads.
Or not taking time out of their day to enforce an unenforceable law.
Cop: "Let me see you license or ID"
Biker: "don't have one"
Cop: "I'm going to take 2hrs away from my schedule to try and figure out your real ID, John Smith"

I don't know what you want me to tell you.
We already have laws against cyclists. We don't need more.

They want to be treated like a car until they come to a traffic signal or a stop sign and then they cruise right on by.
I have no issue with them on the road, but it's dangerous to ride with cars on highways and larger arteries.
i used to cycle when i lived in houston, though we'd go out to the outer communities for weekend cycling ... this post is spot on ... just about everyone inside a n'hood like rice village will ride right on thru the stop sign or red light and expect everyone else to stop ...

You're right. But I remember the the two or three times a week in downtown Charleston when I must slam on the brakes to keep from killing these idiots. What always gets me...they glare or give the finger when they're running stop signs and red lights. BTW...I'm not anti-biking. Love cycling as a sport, not the road clogging kind...

Man I love a good bike thread on the OT

Do some acid and ride your trike in Audubon Park like an adult.

As a cyclists, I yell at other cyclists for running red lights or stop signs.
It pisses me off too.
I wish cops would write more tickets for cyclists.
BTW, I rode my bike to work today. I stopped at every red light and stop sign and used my hand signals at every turn.

What's would be your suggestion to enforce them?
Enforcement of DUI is done financially. As is reckless endangerment.
Would you be opposed to vastly increasing the finest to make it financially prudent to dedicate man hours to enforcing the laws on the books?
