This may be a hassle, but do you have any buddies that will let you test ride theirs? See if you really dig it or not. $1500 will get you a really nice one and you'll find yourself wanting a nicer one 
dad rode mine over winter break and got hooked. mom got a free one from my dads new found friends too. can't wait to go back in the summer and ride with them.
