I used Ancestry to track down my GGF and ultimalty it ended with me becoming an Italian citizen. I'm now a dual citizen because of it.

Yes, since I didn't know past my grandparents it was no use to me though

According to FTDNA, my paternal ancestry is Jewish. My paternal GF was muslim. My uncle said informing him of the results would have been a highly entertaining conversation.

I didnt know much of anything on my moms side, except they got the hell out of europe in 1939. I now know about 6 generations back bc of ancestry

I actually took a trip to MS yesterday to visit some family that had been tracing the family the old school way. Saw my GG grandfather's and GG grandmother's grave. It was really cool. Thinking of signing up for Ancestry just to see if I can try to fill some gaps that they couldn't.

I added me, my parents, and my grandparents I knew. It kept asked if some people were related but I had never heard of them, asked my parents and they didn't either.
I gave up after a couple of weeks

I recently found out that my 9th great grandmother was a African slave and I'm as white as they come, or at least I used to think I was as white as they come lol. Anyone else find any surprising results?
I did mine on my maternal grandfather and found out that my grandmother from way back was a slave , she was purchased by my grandfather and they had 6 kids, and during Reconstruction, he married her and named all the kids as his children to legitimize them.
Did my paternal grandfather and traced it back to France with a grandfather born in 1601. This part of the family came to Louisiana in 1765, being among the first families of Arcadians to arrive from Canada. That grandfather was part of Galvez's militia that ousted the British from Baton Rouge, the Florida Parishes, etc. during the Revolutionary War. So that would qualify me for membership in Sons of the American Revolution. And found out I have a grandfather that was taken prisoner by the Yanks during the Civil War.
I still have to work on my grandmothers' ancestry.

I found out that the old leper from Braveheart is my 26th-27th great grand father. Robert the Bruce is an Uncle. Also, while I was able to trace my wife back to GOD yeah really it went to God. I went all the way back to Odin or some other God in Norse Mythology. Also, I am a direct descendant of a member of the original settlers of Mobile.

You'd probably have better results on Incestry.com anyway.

I'd like to hear the whole citizenship part. I know some of those countries have some lax citizenship requirements.
There was a story about an old Nazi soldier who was getting retirement benefits from 3 countries. Germany for the obvious, Spain because that is where he ended up retiring, and I think Italy because he was born there. Article was about how these countries needed entitlement reform of course.
I have a pretty strong Polish connection I need to learn more about.
