The CIA listens in on foreign leaders/diplomats. Trump aides like manifort or Flynn talk to someone like the Russian diplomat, the aide says something that raises the suspicions of the CIA or FBI. They go to the FISA courts and obtain a warrant to look into the aide's relationship with Russia. At that point all the aide's phone calls/emails, etc are being recorded.
I guarantee you that's what happened/happening. My questions are what did the FBI find, is it still ongoing, and did they discover probable cause to obtain a warrant against Trump himself?
