Louisiana's 'Blue Lives Matter Bill' Under Attack

So this person has an issue with making it a hate crime to target and attack a cop in a preemptive manner? What is wrong with people? This also covers EMS and Firefighters as well.
quote:
Hate crimes are suppose to be for classes or groups of people, NOT PROFESSIONS.
I'd argue more than likely someone who targets a cop targets that officer because he/she is a cop. Not for who they are individually. Therefore hate is directed towards a broad group of people.
This bill was meant to be a further deterrent to those who seek to attack the LEOs in our state. If the poster can't see that then they are blind and misguided.

If a job title is a classification and if a person is attacked due to that classification, that should be a hate crime.

How about we scrap all these stupid billshit "hate" crime laws and instead stick the the constitution where we're all equal under the law? Is that too complicated?

Thanks for leaving the posters name out of the picture. Avoids a lot of the non-productive conversation about the topic.

labeling certain murders as "hate crimes" is pretty ridiculous when you think about it
how many people pre meditate murdering someone that they love?

Just do away with hate crimes FFS. A crime is a crime, hateful or not.

Oh I agree but what kind of shite show you think would go on if hate crimes were done away with? certain groups would go nuts.

That's the problem. Who gives a shite if they "go nuts"? Let them pitch them a slobbering fit and burn down their neighborhoods. Time for people to realize in life they will get offended and they need to learn to deal with it.

People choose their religion as well. Does this person think that attacking someone due to their religious beliefs is not a hate crime?
To counter their argument about soldiers, if a soldier is killed in the line of duty there is retribution in the form of killing the frickers who carried out the attack (if they didn't kill themselves during the attack). WOuld the person be ok with cops carrying out vendetta killings against groups/gangs who target cops? Or would they decree police abuse?
Weak argument is weak on the part of the quoted person. If it took them three+ months since the bills creation to formulate this argument then it spells once again why the US is in a decline in education rankings against other world powers.

They just mad that their pool of special hate crime victims is getting diluted. I'm not in favor of hate crime laws to begin with, but if we have to have them, then cops should definitely be included. Heck, lets include navy seals as well.

That person knew the person and had "reason" to carry through with their plan.
Attaking/killing someone you don't know because of their profession, ethnicity/nationality, religion, sex, or sexual orientation should absolutely have a classification with harsher minimum sentences.

This. Special treatment nanny state BS has to end, regardless if it's for blue lives, black lives, gay lives, whatever.
Also I tend to laugh at the people who mock Black Lives Matter in one breath only to say there needs to special treatment for blue lives in another.

If someone says they are gonna go out and target cops then they are going to do it with or without this law. I was never a big fan of it personally. I feel that any person that attacks another is usually based on some form of hate regardless of profession, skin color, religion, etc.

The navy seal that looses their life in the line of duty is not dealing with US Citizens on US soil. The foreign murdered isn't bound by US law. But like others have said. All of these hate laws need to be dropped. But as long as we have them I have no issue with there being one to protect the police.

So if people start attacking guys wearing bedazzled jeans just because they're wearing bedazzled jeans, how is that not a hate crime? Beating up a public servant is already its own special law with harsher consequences than beating up a regular person

All men are equal. Some are just more equal than others.
