re: The search must begin with BILLY DONOVAN

I would be thrilled with Donovan that would be amazing but we only paid Ed Orgeron 3.5 million for LSU football! I doubt we'd be willing to pay Billy Donovan the 3-5,000,000$ it would take to get him back in college basketball!!!!!!!
If Alleva does it tho, hell yeah. If we offer Donovan 3.5 million he may come. But it would take money and Alleva has proven to go cheap.
I see us paying no more than 2-2.5 million

Such an intellectual response.
So we must presume you do not agree the search should start with the best whether he accepts or not. Instead of just asking a two time national champion coach if he might want to return to the SEC we should focus on that up and coming coach whom we hope might be the next Donovan. I see.

It's a really easy situation. Eddie Nunez has a relationship with Donovan. He has a friendly conversation about the opening, whonDonovan would recommend, etc. Sometime during the concersation- "Billy- here's a crazy thought. Would you be interested in coming to BR to be the coach? Is there anything that could make you interested?"
Simple, easy, and natural. No need to make it more than that unless he says yes. I agree he is the longest of long shots, but I also agree if I'm Alleva I reach out to him. It doesn't cost anything to ask.

If Donovan wanted in the college game, he wouldn't come to LSU.

Why not? LSU is in a much better position in talent and in basketball tradition than Florida was when he arrived. Its not even close.
This season was terrible. However, the prior four seasons were decent. If a coach could add 2 to 4 wins to each of those seasons, especially in the SEC this becomes a top 15 to 20 program. Had Quarterman stayed and Victor not gotten booted this would have been a top 5 SEC team.
This is not Auburn , Mississippi State or Tennessee. A few years ago most would have scoffed at the idea that Bruce Pearl, Ben Howland and Rick Barnes would be coaching those teams. Think what a coach of Donovan's stature could do at LSU. If not him keep the sights high and avoid the flavor of the year mid major coach trap.

This is one of the dumbest, most embarrassing thread topics ever. That takes into account both sides of the Miles arguments.

While you are at it give us your idea of where the search should begin. Go ahead put yourself on the line.

I never thought I would live long enough for someone to suggest a Dead Head should be our coach.

Now it is dawning on the fan base , that replacing coaches is not something to be done lightly , with more support by the fan base to help recruiting maybe we would be in the sweet 16 this year , having fun with critizing coaches is a major drag on recruiting which is the the life blood of college ball ! Critizing the next coach will get us the same results !

Easy to throw out invectives. Why should they not inquire about Donovan's interest. Should we just aim low and hope for the best or go for it?

The search should start with REALISTIC candidates that might be a bit of a reach like Scott Drew, Mike Brey, Archie Miller etc

No. We should start with Greg Popovich. Need to dream bigger.
Steve Kerr should also be on the list. If we can't get an NBA guy then Coach K and Roy Williams should be given serious consideration.

I would take Johnny back before I'd want Roy Williams. frick him. What Knight said about the Indiana admins is what I hope for Roy

I get that Donovan is more of a reach than current college coaches. What harm is there in exploring the possibility? Either he is interested or he is not.
Sup[pose LSU hires a mid major coach with a good resume. Then suppose Rick Barnes leaves Tennessee or Georgia fires Mark Fox and Donovan is hired by one of those schools. How would you feel if LSU had not approached him? Guarantee he would take the LSU job over either of those positions. Then once again when given the chance to go bold LSU takes the path of least resistance.
