When are all the monuments in DC coming down?

They don't pull down the statues of the winning team.

Getting better. Water temps rising and spawn starting.

man, i'm jealous.

all the creeks and rivers i fish in northern arizona are blown out and discolored due to our unseasonably wet winter and snowmelt. have had better luck with smallmouth bass in warm water lakes further south.

hoping to hook some redfish on the fly rod when i visit home this summer. whether the confederate statues are up or down i'll be happy to be home : )

white supremacist racial ideology

Blah blah blah.

Lincoln didn't think whites and black could co-exist in America and actively wanted to ship blacks to Central America and elsewhere. When are you going to advocate for his monument to be removed since he was a 'white separatist' by our current 21st century understanding?

Gen. Robert E Lee was a great man, and a great American. Sorry you are too stupid to realize that.

I just don't think you can consider General Lee a great American. A great person perhaps. He fought with honor and for his home state. But he literally fought to divide America. I'm sorry but that pretty much rules you out of the running to be considered a great American.

Not so fast. The Andrew Jackson on horseback needs to come down before there will be a more just, verdant, and peaceful New Orleans.

Next it'll be street names, building names, town names, and on and on.
I think all streets should immediately be renamed. Use numbers instead of names or words, because names and words might confuse and offend the non-literate population. And because all or some particular numbers might also be problematic for math-challenged persons, these may either be left off the approved numbers list completely, or changed on site by the offended individuals.

Good luck when you return. I am hoping the water is not to muddy when we go to Colorado in June.

Should we tear down the Lincoln Memorial because he wanted to send the freed slaves back to Africa? Should we tear down all of Jefferson's monuments? Where does it end?

Your focusing on the race aspect and i know you have your whole white identity obsession going on but these men were traitors to this country. Led troops into battle against the United States.
We should remember them in museums and history books. But we dont honor them with monuments.

They were traitors in an ex post facto sense. America in the antebellum period was not seen as a unified country but as a collection of cooperating but unique states.

In fact, you didn't hear the term "THE united states" until after the civil war. Before it, it was "THESE united states".

You can't judge people based off the standards of contemporary time. They were men who fought bravely for what they believed, and many of them in the end admitted that it was best and the most moral outcome that they lost the war.

I am a yankee but I was always taught, as were many rural northerners, that Lee, jackson, among others were to be treated respectfully.

I don't see why that cannot be the case.

So, you're not honest enough to answer the question? Sad.

I would argue that you could say that about any of our former enemies. We dont need monuments to the generals of our enemies. Teach the history objectively... But these men dont need to be honored in our public squares as American heros.

I asked you where does this end. Should we tear down the statues of slave owners? Yes or no?

Abe Lincoln did not view southern military leaders as traitors, nor did a huge percentage of union veterans.

It's a modern day invention.

BTW, let's just say that while it wasn't politically traitorous, it was morally traitorous what many union soldiers did to southern towns towards the end of the war.

The civil war was a tragic event. It was not a triumphant victory. Let us not forget the words spoken after appamatox. "don't celebrate, they are you're countrymen now"

Robert E lee was a more moral individual than many union generals.

he deserves respect in the American lexicon.

Depends. Were they traitors who led troops against the united states? That is the core issue for me.

They enslaved blacks. Lincoln wanted to ship the slaves back to Africa. Did you know that?

Respect and having your own public monuments are two different things. There have been many formidable adversaries that are worthy of respect. But we dont keep statues of them in the town square.
