Movies People Won't See Because They Think They Know What it's About

The past 2 best pic winners got me wondering about other good movies that some people have refused to see because they assume it's a certain type of movie
People don't want to see Moonlight because they assume a movie about a gay black guy will just be your run of the mill liberal agenda, we hate white people and black people are great type movie. While it's actually not at all
People didn't want to see Spotlight cause they just assumed it was 2 hours of Catholic bashing. And it wasn't
What other good ones are people missing out of for similar reasons?

Beaches
Steel Magnolias
I may never truly know if I should have watched those.

I didn't want to see Moonlight because it didn't look interesting. Knowing what it's about now really hasn't changed anything, still don't want to see it.
Being completely honest, I haven't seen the vast majority of Best Picture nominees lately, and the last Best Picture winner I've seen was Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
I think this has more to do with the kind of movies that are being lauded as great movies and nominated for Best Picture. I don't think it has as much to do with politics or agenda as a lot of people believe. Best Picture nominees I've seen:
2016
None
2015
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Revenant
2014
None
2013
The Wolf of Wall Street
2012
Django Unchained
Life of Pi
2011
None
2010
127 Hours
Black Swan
The Social Network
Toy Story 3
True Grit
2009
Avatar
The Blind Side
Inglourious Basterds
2008
Slumdog Millionaire
2007
No Country for Old Men
Juno
There Will Be Blood
From 2007-2010 I saw 12 Best Picture nominees. From 2011-2016 I've only seen 5. The movies that are getting the highest praise the last few years just haven't been that interesting to me.

Think foodie...you see the name , prices, menu options.....and you know your taste in things.
You've given quail eggs and steak tartar a go once or twice 10 years ago because you thought you may be missing something....must you try every version every year to know it's not really your thing?
Are you superior because the you are a tar tar afficiando?
"fire burns off the complexities" type person?
I don't know, just a question.

A portion of this board thinks Dear White People is all about how whitey is the devil
There will always be peeps who refuse to watch Oscar nominated flicks b/c their brains are somehow locked into agenda politics 100% of the time.

Any Nicholas Sparks movie - no thanks
Didn't intend on watching movies like Sisters and The Heat bc I didn't think girls were funny but Cartman was right they are; my SO wanted to watch them during lazy days and I find them both to be enjoyable comedies
Fast and Furious movies - but in this case they are correct, ppl don't watch BC you can predict what they are about
Any Tom Cruise movie - I'll be honest I usually don't watch BC I assume it's he's playing basically the same character but the one I watched, Edge of Tomorrow, I did enjoy

What is it actually about?
The plot summary on Wikipedia says it's about a crack baby who jacks off his friend and grows up to be a crack dealer

I never saw The Village because I knew what the twist was. I had friends that went to a midnight screening and talked to them the next day and I said I think this is the twist (I guess I won't say in case someone wanted to watch it all these years later and still doesn't know) and I was right.
I also think I might know the twist to Get Out but I still want to see it.

There are already many posters who don't want to see another white guilt movie in Get Out

Hacksaw ridge, until last night. I thought it was about a pussy not wanting to touch a gun. I finally watched it last night and realized he was the complete opposite of a pussy.

Well, I often pick movies based on what I think they will be about.
As an avid supporter and advocate of equal rights, I don't watch most of the civil rights movies because they bring me down. I want entertainment in movies.

Perfect Storm. Just looks like a two hour thunderstorm.
Brokeback Mountain bc I'm not interested in cowboys fricking each other.

I've never wanted to see the Shining. I've seen small parts of it and it just looks like a guy going crazy trying to axe his family. No interest.

San Andreas. Looks like a cheesy corny movie where Rock does superhuman feats to save people, likely his family, and escapes an earthquake just in time.

Spotlight was great.
Interstellar. People think its just another sci-fi pic and its more about relationships and keeping the connection.
Manchester by the Sea. Its not just another movie about Boston; its riveting in its intensity.
