A doctor was nearby and ran to the scene to assist the injured. My friend and the doctor helped assess and decide who needed to go to the hospital first. The young guy driving plowed into a white car right infront of a mixed group of police, EMT, and first responders.

I was 1/2 block away on Carrollton. We were at a friend's house party on Toulouse and decided to go up to Carrollton instead of Orleans b/c no barricades on Carrollton. Some people from the party who went to Orleans were hit by the truck though. We don't know their condition. Hopefully everyone pulls through and is OK.

Was the dump truck there on purpose?
We noticed a few dump trucks parked sporadically in other areas this weekend.

I don't think the dump truck was there to prevent people from intentionally driving through the crowd like the attacks in Europe. I think it was part of the clean up crew but I'm not positive.

The road was open going the opposite direction of the parade. People were inching through extremely dense crowds the entire time I was there.

Could have created a bad situation on Canal and the side streets if Carollton was closed with no prior notice.

Dump trucks were there for clean up at the end of the parade... Front end loaders scoop the trash and dump it in the dump trucks..
