re: Ultimate #GAINZ thread: CrossFit Open 17.5 Final Workout

Whatever the case (as far as reps per arm are concerned) it seems like a difficult workout. And this is coming from a conventional lifter who spends about 4 days a week in the gym and thinks crossfitters are annoying.
I'm very rarely ever impressed with the physique of a crossfitter. I don't go to the gym to be a part of some movement or exclusive club. I go to get results. For the majority of people, you'd never know by looking at them that they do crossfit regularly. And I'm talking about the people who follow their nutrition plans and keep up with their routines. I've been at the gym regularly for almost 4 years now. If I had no gains and didn't look like I lifted after 4 years, I'd give up and do something else.
Also, doing 150 reps of a resistance exercise makes no sense. No matter how much weight you're using, if you can do 150 reps (especially for time), it's basically just a good cardio workout. You're not going to build any muscle that way.

We all have goals. I'd rather look like this:
than like this
To each his own
than like this
To each his own

This stuff will eventually deteriorate your joints, most hardcore crossfitters that I know have had multiple surgeries.

What type of surgeries? Serious question.

There's such an emphasis on how FAST you can do the workout, seems like you give up your form and technique to do it faster and that's how injuries happen

There are plenty of CrossFit people that don't "talk about CrossFit"

I'm in my 40's and I started CrossFit about 5 months ago because I wanted to try something that I enjoyed more than a gym or running. So far I've been very pleased with my results and the variety of exercises that we do.
Sounds like you are here to talk about crossfit.

There has to be a reason why they wanted/did sue the nsca for releasing a report on the dangers of xfit

The worst thing about crossfit are the people that do it.
If cool people did it, then I would go back. But they are generally terrible human beings

I did it at 5:30 this morning and got time caped at 166 reps.
I probably shouldn't have went out drinking last night for the Boogie debut. Ah, well...

I don't hang out with any or really know any people that do it. But a few of us at the gym genuinely enjoy when a few crosfitters come in and start moving around their little boxes and grab the 35-lb dumbbells. There are few things at the gym more entertaining than watching the form of crossfitters deteriorate with every rep to the point that you don't even know what lift they're trying to do.

This. I workout in a gym that's part crossfire and the other half is a normal gym, there's some great gains, but I think there's a big sacrifice that comes with it. There's only so much those joints and ligaments can take.

It's really funny to me that every time there is a thread on here about crossfit so many of you seem to be so threatened by what some other adult is doing to try and workout and better themselves, most of which is from people that probably sit around and do nothing.
There are look at me douchebags that do crossfit.
There are look at me douchebags that lift in traditional gyms.
There are look at me douchebag runners.
There are also plenty of people in every workout arena that don't have a clue what they're doing and get hurt.

very rarely ever impressed with the physique of a crossfitter.
You are talking about the folks that go and do the daily workout three times a week, enjoy it, and eat like crap.
I fall in the later group. I go 3-4 times, rarely do any supplemental workouts, eat like shite 70% of time.
I started 4 years ago. Positive changes are: lost 35 pounds, bp meds cut in half, cholesterol down 50 pts, hdl HD ratio normal, fasting blood glucose levels
I have a 3rep maxes of clean of 275, back squat 430, deadlift of 475, push press of 255. I can run a 10k even though I dont run at all outside of our workouts. I am sure pedestrian numbers to the lifters here
So be an a-hole about it all you want, I am sure my physique is pretty normal. But as a 47 year old that can do stuff I couldn't dream of doing at 37 I don't understand the stupid shite that is spouted.

I don't think anyone feels "threatened" by anyone doing crossfit. We just find their cultish vibe really odd.
There are plenty of good aspects to crossfit, but also some things that don't make a ton of sense. I'm not anti-crossfit. It's better that people work out and try than be lazy and fat. I'm more puzzled by it than anything else.
