That's a lot of snatches.
Here's a nice snatch:

How do they determine the weight for each workout? Is the same for all competitors?
50 lb dumb bell
1 rep = snatch with each arm ( 2 snatches)

Crossfit is working out for the "Look at Me! Look at me!" crowd.

quote:no, it is alternating, each rep is w each arm. 150 reps at 50 lbs will see who has a core.

Not many average folks will complete in time cap

Right but 1 rep = a snatch with each arm. That's the way I saw them doing it last night.

I love how all CrossFit fail videos come from normal gyms

Each arm is a rep.
Left arm snatch - 1 rep
Right arm - 1 rep
Left arm snatch - 1 rep
Right arm - 1 rep

CrossFit is just one type of exercise program... Some people like to lift weights... some people like to run.
There are plenty of people that "check in" on FB when they go to Planet Fitness or Anytime Fitness.
There are plenty of CrossFit people that don't "talk about CrossFit"
No matter which workout regimen you choose the long term benefits to exercise are the real reason to do it.
I'm in my 40's and I started CrossFit about 5 months ago because I wanted to try something that I enjoyed more than a gym or running. So far I've been very pleased with my results and the variety of exercises that we do.
I don't have any aspirations to make the CrossFit games and I don't really even push too hard on the workouts. I use it to maintain my flexibility and overall strength. I can see it as something that I will do for a long time.
I did sign up for the CF Open this year as part of a group workout with my gym. I'm looking forward to going through the workouts with my friends over the next 5 weeks and then we will probably have a crawfish boil at the end. Sounded like a fun experience.

Then I stand corrected.

Workout 17.1
For time:
10 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
20 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
30 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
40 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
50 dumbbell snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
Men use 50-lb. dumbbell and 24-in. box
Time cap: 20 minutes
Does this mean you're doing 150 dumbbell snatches (reps) using 50-lb dumbbells on both right and left arm (at the same time) for each rep?

Don't talk that way about MUH BOX!

I'll be doing the master's 45-49 scaled version which is the 35# dumbbell and 20" box burpee step overs
