Get off my lawn

Protests erupted in Southern California Wednesday night after a video surfaced appearing to show an off-duty LAPD police officer firing his gun during a scuffle with a group of teens.
The incident occured on Tuesday. Authorities responded to reports of a fight between a man and several teens. The man was later identified as the police officer and he "discharged his firearm" and detained at least one of them, Sgt. Daron Wyatt, of the Anaheim police department, said.
"Yesterday, he sees the kids walking on the lawn and he says, 'Hey, guys, please walk on the sidewalk,'” Wyatt told KTTV. He said that prompted a chorus of epithets from some of the teens.
The LAPD said it is investigating the incident. The officer was placed on administrative leave. Two of the boys were arrested and release to their parents, Anaheim police said.
A dispute has now ensued over what the teen actually said to the officer on the video. Wyatt said the officer moved to detain the teen because he threatened to shoot the officer.
The mother of the 13-year-old who was detained denied that her son did anything wrong.

A couple of the kids are now facing charges for battery and/or assault. Kids claim dindu.
What says the OT?

I mean, those kids look pretty small.
The cop is shown dragging one of them around, I can't tell who is instigating
Some other dude comes up and tries to get the cop to let him go, there is some touching but nothing too egregious
Then at one point the cop pulls out his gun
Honestly it looks pretty bad for the cop. The kids are truly kids and aren't running up and throwing punches or anything. They're largely 10-15 feet away with their backpacks on watching.

Looks as if he was trying to apprehend/arrest the kid. The kid initiated things if you watch the video.

Did you not see the bull rush over the hedge?

Correct procedure

It looks like a typical situation in which kids are showing no respect for authority and the cop took charge.

again, the bull rush

I'm relatively pro-police in many situations. I saw little if any taunting or aggression on the part of the kids in the lead up.
Ok, I rewatched and see the part around the hedge. Some kid rushes the cop and then the black kid (maybe) takes a swing while trying to pull the other away. I skipped around the first time and didn't see that.
I'm not sure the firing is going to be justifiable, but you (and video) changed my mind on the brandishing.

Little fricks shouldn't be on his property.

The parents of these kids need to learn some parenting skills and these wanna be thugs got exactly what they deserved for acting stupid.

I am on cops side, from what I saw, kids were looking to start shite and as someone said before, sometimes you run into someone you shouldn't have fricked with and is just crazy enough (not a bad thing)
I did find it funny that he didn't want them on his lawn, but drug the kid through his nicely manicured hedges (I assume they were his, IDK)

Should have just called ICE. They'd get off his lawn real fast.

I always make sure to respect guys in polo shirts and jeans, you make it sound like he was in uniform or had his badge displayed. Last time I checked you can't charge someone with not showing respect to police.

How about walking on the sidewalks and stay out of his yard? Kids aren't taught to respect others in far too many cases today. As the article says, the video doesn't show the entire sequence of events.

Can you get charged for Batt/assault on a cop if he's off duty?

California is so screwed if they don't see that as valid. Protesting over that? Parents say they didn't do anything wrong? Are you kidding me.
