Switch looking more and more appealing: virtual console not available at launch

Statement from Nintendo:

So why are they rushing this damn thing?

We all thought this might be coming, and now it’s official: the Virtual Console will not be live when the Switch launches next week, Nintendo said today.
“Virtual Console games will not be available on Nintendo Switch at launch,” the company said in a press release. “We will share more information in the future.”
It’s disappointing news for anyone who hoped that Nintendo’s impressive slate of classic games might help fill in the blanks between big Switch releases like Zelda and Super Mario Odyssey. Given the lack of details so far on the Virtual Console—and given Nintendo’s history—it’s fair to expect the worst, despite our brief optimism that they might get things right this time.
In the same press release, Nintendo added that FAST RMX and Shovel Knight (including the new Specter Knight campaign) will both launch alongside the Switch on March 3. You’ll also be able to transfer your funds from other Nintendo devices after linking your “Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo Account and then their Nintendo Account to [your] Nintendo Switch system,” which is hopefully less confusing than it sounds.
So why are they rushing this damn thing?

Also, if you pre-ordered BotW Master Edition on Amazon, be prepared. This just came across my feed.

And so it begins....
What a shitty way to start your day.

How many $10 credits will that be? Amazon is going to quit carrying Nintendo before long.

So why are they rushing this damn thing?
They want to be able to say, "Look! Retailers across the world are selling out of our new console and can't keep them on the shelves. Surely, the future of Nintendo is bright." And based on the NES Classic, they'll be right about the first part at least.
And funny you mention the problems with the BOTW pre-order. I pre-ordered the Wii U version in January from Amazon and checked my pre-order yesterday to discover it wouldn't be arriving until March 31. I emailed them and they fixed it this morning but I found a thread on Reddit where others were complaining about the same exact thing. Odd.

I'm not an investor or anything, but I would think showing them impressive sales numbers and dollar figures would be better than saying they sold out.

"We sold out."
"Yeah, but you made, like, 3 of them..."

But it would be nice to have games, right? Because it's Zelda and that's it.

Launch (March 3):
1-2-Switch
Fast RMX
Just Dance 2017
Human Resource Machine
I Am Setsuna
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Little Inferno
Shovel Knight
Skylanders: Imaginators
Super Bomberman R
World of Goo
March/Spring:
Arms (Spring 2017)
Has-Been Heroes (March 2017)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (April 28)
Puyo Puyo Tetris (Spring 2017)
Snipperclips, Cut It Out Together (March 2017)
Nintendo knows all they have to have for it to sell is Zelda. They aren't going to rush other titles when Zelda alone can carry the launch.

No games for this thing, no availability at retailers. I am perfectly fine waiting 6 months or so for a Switch, provided they are actually in stock by then.

It's bare bones for the early adopters
No internet browser, video streaming or virtual console. But I want this thing so damn badly because of the portability factor
Plus Zelda looks like a game I'll be chewing on for at least a month if it's as big as they say and lives up to the standards set by the series

There are plenty of retards here that will agree with you, but that's some bs justification for weaker-than-weak launch lineup. Add that to the fake supply shortages Nintendo is proving once again it doesn't get it. And probably never will.

From what I have seen, the Wii U version is quite inferior to the Switch version. I would only by Breath of the Wild on the Wii U, if I simply was not planning on buying a Switch in the foreseeable future.

But is that why you want it so badly?

I think Zelda having been ready for some time factored into a rushed launch.
You could delay the switch release but Zelda? And it's finished as many people have suspected for a long time...no bueno
What's missing at launch is coming so it's no sweat off my back and they aren't core features but to make this as successful as it can be...those things need to be there eventually and sooner rather than later. By mid year, fall at the latest
