Damn, I love this little island. We haven't even left the area of our hotel and I'm enchanted yet again. Hotel Secreto, BTW.
Room view. Hotel has 12 rooms and they all have this view.
We have a bed on our balcony. It's awesome.
Lunch delivered to our room from a local restaurant. Fish tacos and shrimp tacos plus the rest and margaritas for $29.
If you haven't been to this island you're an idiot. No, really. There is no reason not to come here. More pics to follow in the next 10 days.

MAJOR HIJACK haha.
That looks awesome!
Just informed by Mrs Crickets that we need to take another couple to St John over July 4th.
Would you be up for a few VRBO recs? Pannycricketstd@gmail.com if you would be so kind.
Enjoy Isla!

We always stay at Grande Bay on St John. Yes it's on the expensive side but it's right in Cruz Bay near almost every good restaurant and bar on the island. Plus the ferry to the BVI is a short walk away.

Thanks to you both!
VABuckeye, any houses in Grande Bay that you would recommend?
Mrs Crickets likes the nice stuff.
Did I mention how jealous I am of your present trip? Salut!

I'm a East End/Coral Bay fan.
There's been a few new houses built on that end of the island that have two master suites.

Grande Bay is all condos. You can get the right size to fit the number of people in your party. It's a short drunken stagger from Beach Bar. (Which works for me). Lol

Thanks again, to the both of you!

Looks awesome. It's on the list for sure.

Visited there for a day while in Cancun. That island really is pretty cool. How far away from the beach are you?

There's a beach right past the pool in that photo. Playa Norte is about a 5 minute walk.

Someone walk me through the Isla Mujeres appeal. It looks nice, but why is it probably the most discussed destination on this board?
Value for $$$?

It's beautiful.
It still has a lot of that old charm. There are no big name hotels on the island.
The restaurants are fantastic and food and drinks are cheap. $2 Coronas and $3 margaritas at most places.
Playa Norte is a gorgeous beach.
Avenue Hidalgo has a ton of restaurants and shops and it's right up north near the best beach and most of the hotels.
Flights are easy. I have a direct flight from Dulles to Cancun on United and then a 15 minute ferry ride to Isla.
The only vehicles on the island are pretty much taxis and golf carts. A taxi ride anywhere on the island is $5.

Looked at doing this trip before but ended up in Playa Del Carmen in Sept 2016 (which was awesome). What kind of cost/time is the taxi to the ferry, ferry ride, then taxi to condo/hotel? Can you get from IM to the Cancun airport in an hour?
ETA: Would you consider staying at the Mia Reef Resort on the island?

I hate to hijack a Isla Mujers thread with a question about to St. John, but does Coral Bay basically shut down during the middle of summer? Might be able to find cheap VRBOs, but a lot of the restaurants & businesses might be closed.
Back on track.... Isla Mujeres always got a lot of love on the OT before the this board was created. It's perfect for a getaway for a few days, but I always forget about it.

what are y'all paying a night for that place if you don't mind divulging.

Great find...we went there for a day last summer as a side trip to Cancun. My boys had a blast riding around in the golf carts, the sea turtle farm and lunch at Bahama Mama's. The water can't get any prettier.

For anyone that doesn't like staying a larger hotels and resorts, check out "casa sirena". It's where I stayed when I went to isla mujeres and is a great b&b if you like staying at smaller places.

There's only like 4 restaurants in Coral Bay. Everything else is in Cruz Bay.

It takes about 40 minutes for the ferry ride and the can transfer to the airport.
I'm really happy with this little hotel. I guess I'd stay at Mia reef. I can tell you I will definitely come back to Hotel Secreto.
