Better men than we are.

I'd fight if the world was on the line.
This oversimplified and cliched statement that the greatest generation is better than all of us is tiring.

For those wondering the battle began on the 19th; the flag raising was on the 23rd

My dad went in on the second wave. He also said he really wanted a glass of ice water while on that island for two. months.
That pretty well sums up all he ever said about that experience.
Edit: May he rest in peace.

Nuclear weapons capabilities made us all knuckle checking cucks.

I've always felt a tinge of guilt that my generation has never had to endure something like that.
Also, if you have some spare time, take a visit to the WWII museum in Nola. You won't be disappointed.

I would think the guys in Iraq not knowing who their enemy was and being blown up by suicide bombers and IEDs, and shot by snipers out of random houses were pretty brave also. Both generations have or had great soldiers

Why? Because we have smartphones and no global war to fight?

Kuribayashi turned Iwo into a fortified hellhole for our GIs. Those who fought there took on the Japanese defensive magnum opus. Very very brave men.

My grandpa was in WWII. He passed away 9 years ago. He was not himself for the last 4 or 5 years of his life, but he talked about the war all the time. He had a lot of great stories. He talked about it as if that was what he was suppose to do. Never heard him complain about having to go to go overseas and fight, he was just fortunate to be able to come back, raise a family and enjoyed sharing his stories because he thought it was part of his duty, as someone who was able to come back to do so.
