Anyone been out there this year. My dad is infatuated with the place, so we're going to give them a try tomorrow. I've never done much good there, so would love if anyone has any pointers.
TIA
TIA

I always wondered if that area of LA, the oil patch of North LA, just borrowed names of TX oil towns. You've got Vivian and Oil City which are both TX towns. Then you have Rodesssa and Hosston, where they appear to changed/add a couple letters and hope nobody notices.

I haven't verified this but was told that the names of the communities of Vivian, Myrtis and Rodessa were the names of the daughters of the the railroad roadmaster when the first rail came to the area.

Stayed in a motel a few years. ACk in Vivian or oil city. Had a Mexican restaurant attached to it.
Oil city used to be booming they said there was so much natural gas being flamed off that it never got dark.
Big giant garhole now
Cool story I know

I was there last weekend. Lake looked pretty good, salvania wasn't too bad. We caught a decent number of fish and had a lot of bites. Nothing special, just a beaver on trees. Most of our bites came on really isolated trees on either side of the island. Just put your head down and fish, you'll catch them out there this weekend.

Don't know the origin of Mira's naming. Don't think any rail runs through there.

Fished two tournaments there this year, a few guys had good catches while it seemed like there were a lot of zeros. Both bites were very slow, I'm just not a fan of the place at all, it's just a million cypress trees. I would try to stay on the scattered clumps and single trees.

The story of the names coming from the daughters of the railroad developer is correct. Rodessa was originally called Frog Level, before it was changed.

Ida and Mira were named after daughters of landowners of land that railroad went through. I grew up in Hosston. When I was a kid the tracks went all the way to Texarkana. They were removed from Texarkana to Hosston because Bayou State Oil's refinery at Hosston still shipped oil by rail. Once the refinery closed the tracks were taken up to Shreveport.

Vivian used to be a somewhat common name for females. Not sure if I've ever known a woman named Myrtis. Rodessa is a giant leap forward from Frog Level and she was smoking hot in my mind's eye.

I have a tourney out there Saturday. Looks like a cold front coming through Friday night. You catch em on duck blinds and isolated trees?

Would that be Chris and Jay's Great Grandmother? I worked in a seed and chemical warehouse up there for 3 or 4 years. I know damn near every farmer from Texarkana to Coushatta.
