I get that there are specific radio personalities like Russillo, the Mikes, and Lebatard who are potentially worth giving 2 or 3 hours a day each but I guess I just don't understand why the rest of the day has become nothing but SportsCenter and hot takes shows.
It seems like the best game of the previous day could be a regular re-run during the day. Or even a stump the schwab type game show to break it up.
With two or three sister networks in most cable packages there isn't much coherence in what they play either. It might be different if there were a predictable emphasis nearly year round - say football and basketball coverage emphasized on the main network with baseball, hockey, and soccer emphasized on espn2 the viewer might come to enjoy a real sense of predictable packaged entertainment instead of a constant barrage of twitterish news.

I remember Playmakers. It was decent. There were a few other films they showed around the same time.
I miss the days of Sportscentury, Up Close, Stump The Schwab, Beg Borrow And Deal, NFL's Greatest Games, You Can't Blame. Quality original content. I don't mind 1-2 debate shows, but there are too many now.

How about show sportscenter replays all day like they did before?

Also, what other options do they truly have during a work week daytime schedule?
Maybe, and i'm going out on a limb here, how about showing Sports???

ESPN is fake news. They have an agenda. Pump up SEC football and ACC basketball and tell everyone how great DUKE and Alabama are. Oh and the Patriots.

They air it b/c it's cheap programming that does better than or equal to the ratings for what they used to show in those time slots.

It's 2 in the morning on a Wednesday. Well, ESPN Live has an Australian Rules football match. Don't even send talent over there. Just pay whatever TV company that is actually broadcasting the game to have the feed go through ESPN.
This is essentially what ESPN did when they were an up and coming network. Australian Rules Football, Darts, whatever the frick they could find to put on the air. I miss those days. How do I know I don't like something if I've never seen it?

I don't really care too much about ESPN's current mission/MO/overall strategy, what have you. I can ignore these shows. I can watch highlight-filled SC when I want. The amount of live sports coverage is still the best in the business.
What bothers me about ESPN, and this is nothing new, is their agenda towards certain, actual sports entities - nowhere is that more evident than in college football where they have a vested interest in certain conferences and use bullshite indices like FPI to support their agendas.

Have any of you had the chance to watch the new sportscenter with Jemele and Smith? I'm curious what those ratings look like.

Jemele Hill is painfully unfunny.

Please leave politics outta this:
Watching these two now, they just try so hard to be funny/cool to the point it's cringy. If they would just be normal and themselve/"s, it'd be ok.
Still wanna know what's gonna happen to Lindsay Czarniak

Their show SUCKS lol
I think what also hurts ESPN is the fact that every major sport has its own network. NFLNetwork, MLB tv, etc

What if they took two of their channels and made one ESPN Talk and the other ESPN Live
Great idea actually to be honest.
You could have those two, plus you could have:
ESPN Black- for the racial grievances
ESPN Liberal- for the lates Liberal Hot Takes
ESPN Illegal- for all the illegals
ESPN KKK- for the rest of us
Would be a solid strategy. You would end up getting all the views based on channels.

Has Espn started their version of Cribs or My Whacked Ride or the NAACP version of Outside the Lines? It would fit their targeted demographics...white cry babies and gang bangers.

Why would one care about their strategy?

Because they have like 5-6 networks to fill time slots in during days/times where there isnt any live sports to air.
Back in the day it was just ESPN, so they only really needed content to fill air time on one network. Now they have ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, ESPN News, ESPN Classic, SEC Network, and probably one or 2 more I missed. Its great to have so many networks on nights and weekends when they can broadcast 5-6 different live events at the same time...but they still need something to air during morning and afternoons during weekdays.
I agree that a Hard Knocks type show would be nice but I'm sure HBO has exclusive rights for that type of show with their contract with NFL. Plus not every coach and GM would be in favor of having TV cameras following every single move behind the scenes. 30 for 30's are cool...wish they'd do those more often
